Shoreline Pile Driving & Wharf Construction Ltd. is seeking an experienced and motivated Barge Operator to join our marine construction team.
This position plays a critical role in supporting waterfront construction projects throughout the Okanagan. The successful candidate will be responsible for safely operating barges, workboats, and marine equipment while assisting with pile driving, dock construction, marina projects, and material transportation.
This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working on the water, operating equipment, and being part of a skilled construction team.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate barges, workboats, and support vessels
- Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting equipment and materials
- Operate cranes, excavators, winches, and other marine construction equipment as qualified
- Support pile driving, dock construction, marina construction, and marine infrastructure projects
- Conduct vessel and equipment inspections before and after use
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on vessels and equipment
- Secure loads and ensure safe transportation of personnel, materials, and equipment
- Maintain vessel logs, inspection records, and maintenance documentation
- Coordinate with project managers, foremen, and crew members to ensure efficient project execution
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and Transport Canada regulations
- Assist with yard operations, equipment preparation, and general construction activities when required
Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) certificate required
- Experience operating barges, workboats, or commercial vessels
- Strong understanding of marine safety practices and procedures
- Mechanical aptitude and basic equipment maintenance skills
- Ability to work safely and effectively in changing weather and water conditions
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
- Physically fit and capable of performing manual labour when required
- Valid driver's license required
