PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Education
Ontario Teaching Certificate (OTC) Members in good standing – Primary/Junior Qualifications
Required three years of teaching experience, at least 2 of which are in special education
Prior experience working with a diverse student body
Excellent written and verbal communication skills that reflect professionalism at all times
Genuine care for children and a passion for teaching

INDIVIDUALS POSSESSING THE FOLLOWING SKILLS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY:

Attend and participate in the Annual Review of the IEP student Case Conferences
Ensure health, safety & welfare of children
Assist with the implementation of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each student served
Plan and implement educational goals and objectives in the Educational Plan for each child assigned by planning and providing instruction on developmentally appropriate activities
Conduct formal and informal assessments for each student
Develop educational curriculum in conjunction with the Educational Plan
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records concerning each individual in the classroom
Complete all required program and student documentation in a timely fashion
Communicate effectively and positively with parents and professionals
Maintain an orderly, clean and attractive classroom setting, including keeping equipment and materials in good condition and requesting repair or replacement when necessary
Maintain student/family confidentiality
Maintain a high level of professionalism as a role model for all team members
Write annual goals, behavioral objectives and intervention strategies corresponding with assessment in consultation with other disciplines

A Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
