We are looking for a Grocery Clerk to join our Newmarket team.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Greet and assist customers in a friendly and knowledgeable manner, helping them find products and answering inquiries about items.
- Stock shelves, displays, and refrigerators with organic products, ensuring proper product rotation and shelf organization.
- Conduct regular checks on product expiration dates and remove any expired or damaged items to maintain quality and freshness standards.
- Receive and unload deliveries, inspecting products for accuracy and quality.
- Assist in maintaining accurate inventory levels and notify the supervisor when restocking is required
- Maintain a clean and tidy store environment by promptly cleaning spills, sweeping, and organizing shelves.
- Collaborate with team members to execute promotional displays and effectively communicate upcoming sales or events to customers.
- Comply with health and safety regulations, including proper handling of product.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Department Manager, Manager on Duty or Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a grocery store, preferably in an organic or natural food retail setting, is an asset.
- Knowledge of organic products, sustainability practices, and their benefits is highly desirable.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy (40lbs) objects and stand for extended periods, bend, twist, climb ladders.
- Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to multitask efficiently.
Working Conditions:
- The role involves standing for long periods and lifting heavy boxes or crates weighing up to 40lbs.
- Work schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- The grocery clerk may have exposure to colder temperatures with freezers, refrigerators, and chilled backroom.
- Safe and effective use of a box cutter and ladders is required.
- The store may be busy during peak hours, requiring the ability to handle a fast-paced and demanding work environment.
- The clerk will interact with a diverse range of customers, vendors, and team members daily.
- This position is required to work irregular shifts including evenings and weekends.
