CMM Programmer & Operator:
Company Information:
Ker-Train Research Inc. (KTR), a wholly owned Canadian company, has been in business for over 40 years. KTR specializes in the development of new, unique powertrain technologies including advanced gear and clutch designs and non-traditional transmission driveline systems. The company has partners and clients in both the commercial and military sectors.
Position Summary:
KTR's manufacturing facility produces customized prototype parts and assemblies at very low volumes (typically less than 5 builds for a given project). The CMM Programmer is responsible for taking a 3D model and/or a 2D drawing of a part and using that to create an CMM inspection program (ZEISS Calypso) to ensure a manufactured part meets detailed design requirements. The CMM Programmer is also responsible for using those programs to measure and qualify the parts themselves on the ZEISS CMM.
The low part volumes and unique (and sometimes challenging) geometry of the parts typically means that equal, if not more, time will be spent programming versus operating the CMM. GD&T methods are used extensively and a firm understanding of these principles will be crucial to the role.
The CMM Programmer will also occasionally be responsible for other (minor) inspection tasks on manufactured or tested parts including caliper measurements, visual inspection, digital photographs and other simple inspections. The work environment at KTR is very team-oriented and direct communication of results and issues with KTR manufacturing, engineering and design teams will be frequent and extremely important.
Job responsibilities include:
- Review 3D models and 2D drawings of parts to understand dimensional requirements (GD&T and other customized requirements)
- Create CMM programs for specialized parts using ZEISS Calypso Software
- Measure and qualify parts using a ZEISS CMM
- Generate inspection reports using ZEISS Calypso software and other software forms and inspection logs
- Communicate results to KTR manufacturing, engineering and design team members
- Carry out other occasional inspection tasks including (but not limited to): manual caliper measurements, digital pictures, hardness measurements, etc.
