The Quintilian Way is a Not-for-Profit organization that provides social and learning opportunities for children, youth, and young adults in a supportive, therapeutic, and welcoming environment.
Our focus is to teach skills, build confidence, improve self-esteem, and create independence for children and youth.
While our programs are designed for children and youth who may have a diagnosis of
AD(H)D, ASD, anxiety disorder, OCD, or learning disabilities, it is not limited, we promote an inclusive environment.
Position: Day Camp Counselor
Hours: Must be available between 8:30am -5:15pm
Contract: 7-week contract June 29th - August 14th 2026
Compensation: $19/hour 40 hours per week
Position Summary: The Camp Counselor will be responsible for helping to develop and facilitate camp programming
Qualifications:
- Child and Youth Care Diploma, Bachelor of Education, Behavioral Science/Behavioral
Psychology Diploma, Social Service Worker Diploma/or equivalent
- Current CPR/First Aid Certificate (Standard First Aid/CPR Level C)
- Current Record of Immunizations (Including TDP/10-year booster)
- Up to Date CPIC/Police Check with vulnerable sector check (within last 6 months)
- CPI training or equivalent
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a camp counsellor, or related experience working with children
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Clear and effective communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks as well as set and meet deadlines
- High level of organization and attention to detail
- Ability to provide clear expectations
- Manage challenging behavior using non-punitive strategies
- Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills with the ability to problem solve and find resolutions to issues/conflict
- Ability to actively engage and lead activities for a large group (10 children)
Responsibilities:
- Supervise children and youth at summer day camp
- Actively lead and participate in all aspects of day camp programming
- The Camp Counsellor’s tasks and responsibilities are focused on the children and youth that they are working with at camp; this includes facilitating crafts, games, and activities
- The Camp Counsellor supervises the children and youth in all aspects of the camp program
- The Camp Counsellor may be expected to work with larger or smaller groups of children and youth; they may also work one-on-one with a child as needed
