Langs was established as a community development project in 1978 by a group of citizens and service providers concerned about the lack of accessible services in the community. Langs has grown to become a dynamic, respected multi-service organization that uses a community development approach to provide comprehensive health, social and recreational services that are responsive to the changing needs of our community.
What We are Looking For:
We are currently recruiting for a Community Health Promoter to join our team for a part-time position. This role is responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating community programs that promote health, wellness, and social connection. The role integrates health promotion and chronic disease prevention, with a specific focus on healthy eating, active living, and social prescribing, consistent with frameworks such as the Canadian Chronic Disease Indicators (CCDI) and Ontario’s Chronic Disease Prevention Guideline (2018).
A successful candidate in this role would have
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in health or social sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3–5 years’ experience in human services, recreation, community development, or health promotion
- Experience applying health promotion and chronic disease prevention strategies
- Knowledge of healthy eating, active living, and social prescribing approaches
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills
- Knowledge of program development, delivery, and evaluation
- Understanding of the determinants of health, health equity, and CHC models
- Ability to engage diverse community groups in leadership and planning
- Open, non-judgmental, and culturally responsive
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
In this role you will be expected to complete the following tasks:
- Design and deliver programs that promote healthy eating, physical activity, mental well-being, and social connection
- Incorporate evidence-informed strategies guided by Ontario’s Chronic Disease Prevention Guidelines
- Apply health behaviour and community engagement approaches to reduce risk factors
- Support social prescribing referrals by helping residents connect to community resources that enhance wellness and reduce isolation
- Partner with internal departments and external health promotion partners to align programs with broader chronic disease prevention goals
- Monitor and analyze trends, demographics and other sources of internal and external information relation to its impact on programing
- Conduct formal and informal needs assessments, including surveys, focus groups, and community consultations
- Design, implement, and evaluate programs aligned with organizational priorities and community needs
- Lead adult and older adult social, educational, recreational and wellness programs
- Conduct neighbourhood and broader community outreach
- Provide support to social, recreational, and health-promoting programs across all Langs locations
- Build leadership capacity among residents and volunteers
- Support residents in planning and delivering programs
- Engage residents in networking and community planning processes
- Prepare administrative and statistical reports
- Support program promotion through materials, displays, and community presentations
- Assist with planning and attending organizational events
- Maintain professional competence through ongoing training and development opportunities, internally and externally
- Participate in reflective practice and continuous improvement

The successful candidate would be eligible for the following benefits:
- Starting Salary of $22.73 to 25.43 hourly
- 3 Weeks paid vacation, with an increase to 4 weeks after 1 year of employment
- 15 Sick/Personal Days per year
- 10 Professional Development days per year
- Enrolment in Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
- Comprehensive Extended Health and Dental Care Plan including a $1000 Healthcare Spending Account & $500 Lifestyle Spending Account.
