Event Coordinator- Big Little Run (Summer Youth Position)

Rate of Pay: $17.60 per hour, 35 hours per week x 8 weeks

The Opportunity
BBBSG is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and creative individual to join our Fundraising Development team as an Event Coordinator. This position offers hands-on experience in nonprofit event management while supporting the planning and execution of fundraising and community engagement events, including our annual Big Little Run.
This role is ideal for someone pursuing studies or a career in Event Management, Marketing, Recreation, Hospitality, Communications, Business, or a related field.
Position Responsibilities
Reporting to the Fund Development Coordinator; the Event Coordinator could be responsible for the following:
- Support preparations for the Big Little Run, which includes a 5K race, 10K race, and Half-Marathon-taking place in September 2026
- Assist with volunteer recruitment, volunteer training and event-day volunteer management and other day-of event operations
- Provide support with community relations/promotions and relationship-building activities
- Assist with social media promotions and marketing initiatives
- Solicit donations for auction procurement and assist with sponsor, vendor and participant communications
- Maintain event records, information and databases as well as provide administrative support as required
This position will require both remote work and in-office work
Qualifications
- Post-secondary student, with focus on event management, marketing, communications, hospitality, business or a related field
- Proficiency with Microsoft office, Google and various social media platforms
- Ability to work independently and take initiative to assume responsibility with minimal supervision
- Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills
- Interest and knowledge of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph
- Experience volunteering or participation in events is considered an asset
- Have access to a vehicle
- Evening and Weekend work is required
This position is funded by the Ministry of Employment and Social Development through Canada Summer Jobs. As such, the following is required of the applicant:
- Be between 15-30 years of age, at the start of the funded position.
- Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or someone to whom Refugee Status has been granted/conferred.
- Have a valid SIN
- International students, and those who are here in Canada on a work, youth, or visitor visa/permit are not eligible for the program.
