PRIVATE ISLAND CARETAKER(S)
Live-In, Full-Time Position
We are seeking an experienced Caretaker Couple to oversee the year-round care, maintenance and operation of a privately owned island and residence off the east coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Good health, a learning mindset and genuine guest hospitality are needed.
Responsibilities
The caretaker(s) will be responsible for:
- Approximately five acres of landscaping and gardens
- Year-round water and utility systems
- Boat operation and marine transportation
- Dock and shoreline maintenance
- Storm and emergency preparedness
- House and guest preparation
- Grocery and supply runs
- Contractor and trades coordination
- Reconciliation of invoices and basic budgeting
- Deliveries, equipment and furniture movement
- Seasonal opening and closing of the island
- General support for owners and guests
- The ideal candidate will be comfortable living and working in a remote island environment and understand the importance of trust, discretion, reliability and privacy.
This role is hands-on and requires mechanical experience, practical problem-solving skills and a willingness to take on a wide range of maintenance responsibilities. A mechanical background is one of the most important requirements of this position. The successful candidate should have practical experience with:
- Pumps, motors and generators
- Plumbing and water systems
- Desalination, filtration and UV water systems
- Small engines and property equipment
- Basic electrical troubleshooting
- Carpentry and general building repairs
- Boats and marine equipment
- Docks and marine infrastructure
- Lawn and grounds equipment
- Preventative maintenance and general repairs
The position involves physical and outdoor work, including lifting, moving equipment and furniture, maintaining grounds, operating machinery and completing repairs and maintenance throughout the property.
We are looking for someone who is in good health, mechanically inclined, resourceful, self-directed and takes pride in maintaining a property to a high standard.
Accommodation
The successful caretaker(s) will live in a fully furnished two-bedroom, approximately 1,650-square-foot residence on the island, with utilities provided. The island is a 5 minute boat ride to Vancouver Island.

We will conduct thorough due diligence, including reviewing experience and qualifications, conducting interviews and checking references before moving forward with candidates.
