Green Island Builders is looking for an experienced Site Lead / Lead Carpenter to take day-to-day ownership of residential renovation projects.
This is not simply a senior carpenter position. The person we're looking for will remain hands-on, but will also be responsible for looking ahead, coordinating the site, supporting the crew, anticipating materials and trade requirements, communicating with clients and our Construction Manager, maintaining quality, and helping drive the project from start to finish.
If your experience has primarily been performing assigned carpentry work rather than leading projects, crews or job sites, this position is probably not the right fit.
What you'll do
You'll work hands-on across residential renovation projects while taking increasing responsibility for the successful day-to-day operation of a site.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Residential carpentry from framing through finishing
- Reading and working from plans and specifications
- Planning upcoming work and anticipating what's needed next
- Organizing materials, tools and site requirements
- Coordinating upcoming trades and deliveries with our Construction Manager
- Providing direction and support to carpenters and apprentices
- Maintaining quality and identifying deficiencies
- Keeping projects safe, organized and professional
- Communicating with clients, trades, suppliers and the GiB team
- Documenting site information and following through on commitments
- Identifying problems early and helping develop practical solutions
- Mentoring less-experienced members of the crew
- Jumping in wherever needed to keep a project moving
Who we're looking for
Technical carpentry ability matters, but we're equally interested in initiative, judgment and reliability.
We're looking for someone who:
- Has substantial residential carpentry and renovation experience
- Can work independently without constant direction
- Naturally thinks a few steps ahead
- Notices what needs doing and acts on it
- Takes ownership of their work and follows through
- Communicates clearly and professionally
- Is dependable and consistently shows up ready to work
- Works well with apprentices, carpenters, subcontractors and clients
- Takes pride in workmanship and attention to detail
- Can provide leadership without needing to be the person with all the answers
- Is comfortable taking responsibility when something doesn't go according to plan
- Wants to contribute to the success of the project and the team, rather than simply complete assigned tasks
Red Seal certification is an asset, but demonstrated experience, judgment and capability are equally important to us.
A valid driver's licence and reliable transportation are required.
Compensation
$42–$50/hour, depending on experience and demonstrated ability to take on Site Lead responsibilities.
Green Island Builders also offers a broader compensation package that includes:
- Extended health and dental benefits
- Group RRSP with employer contributions
- Paid sick days
- Vacation that increases with length of service
- Long-service recognition and retention incentives
- Training and professional-development opportunities
