Job Summary
The Refuse Collector plays a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene within the community by collecting and disposing of waste materials. This position requires individuals who are physically fit, reliable, and dedicated to ensuring that refuse is handled efficiently and safely. The Refuse Collector will work as part of a team, driving collection vehicles through designated routes to pick up refuse from residential and commercial locations.
Duties
- Operate collection vehicles safely while adhering to traffic regulations and safety protocols.
- Must have a valid class 3 with air brakes. Class 5 with air brakes is allowed.
- Collect refuse from designated areas, including residential homes, commercial properties, and public spaces.
- Perform heavy lifting to load waste materials into the collection vehicle. We work in all weather types, we work holidays.
- Ensure that all collected refuse is properly secured in the vehicle for transport.
- Conduct routine inspections of the collection vehicle to ensure it is in good working condition.
- Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards encountered during collection routes.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness around collection sites post-service.
- Collaborate with team members to optimize collection routes and improve efficiency.
Skills
- Ability to perform heavy lifting consistently throughout the workday.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; experience driving large vehicles is preferred. Class 3 or 5 with Air Brakes is a must.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety practices.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and adapt to changing environments.
