We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Engineering Team as the Assistant Powerhouse Chief.
Responsibilities:
The Assistant Powerhouse Chief will report directly to our Utilities Services Manager/Chief Engineer and assist them in being responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of building systems equipment and facilities to provide highly reliable utility support to all HCC industrial processes and facility requirements. Equipment includes HVAC, boilers, chillers, steam turbines and engines, gas compression systems, air compressors and purified water systems, and associated mechanical and electrical systems in power generation. This position has supervisory and managerial responsibility of all onsite Operating Engineers (2nd Class, 3rd Class, 4th Class and Co-op positions).
- Assist in ensuring the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a 1st Class high-pressure steam plant, including cogeneration systems, boilers, air compressors, water treatment systems, ammonia refrigeration, air scrubbers, and related equipment.
- Support the planning, scheduling, and direction of 2nd Class Operating Engineers and external contractors in carrying out corrective and preventative maintenance activities.
- Ensuring all required operational logs, utilities logs, records, and CFIA/quality documentation are completed, reviewed, and properly maintained for audit and compliance purposes.
- Support the Chief Engineer in maintaining compliance with Ontario TSSA regulations and assist with required inspections and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in identifying the need for external resources (consultants, technical services, and contractors) and support their coordination and management as required.
- Support the training and development of Powerhouse Operating Engineers, ensuring required training is assigned, completed, and verified.
- Assist in ensuring daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of boiler and utility systems are completed and that equipment operates safely and within expected parameters.
- Manage spare parts inventory and maintenance programs.
- Strong engagement in the Health and Safety culture within the facility.
- Provide leadership and direction to the operating engineer team and foster a continuous improvement philosophy.
- Assist in energy management initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and reducing consumption.
- Assist in the preparation and management of the annual capital and maintenance budget for all Powerhouse operations.
- Assist in the planning and execution of capital projects within the Powerhouse.
Qualifications:
- A valid Ontario – 1st Class Operating Engineer's License.
- Minimum 2 years’ work experience as a 1st Class Operating/Stationary Engineer and/or 5 years’ experience as a 2nd Class Operating/Stationary Engineer.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
