Summary

The Divisional Accountant is responsible for accounting functions such as accurate income statement preparation, monthly reconciliation of ledger accounts, analysis of accounts receivable and job costing. This position will also provide support for accounts receivable as required.

Key responsibilities of the Divisional Accountant:

Accounts Receivable:

Preparation of billings for construction contracts with retentions.
Construction job set-up.
Set up customer accounts in ERP for new construction contracts
Reconcile customer accounts.
Apply cash receipts to sub-ledgers.
Collection calls as required.
Provide customers with appropriate documentation to expedite timely payments (eg. Lien Releases, Statutory Declarations, WCB Clearance Letters etc.).

General Accounting:

Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
Preparation and entry of various weekly, monthly and annual journal entries.
Set up and maintain jobs and budgets in accounting software.
Reconciliation and preparation of month-end financial package.
Preparation of monthly/quarterly multi-jurisdictional sales tax returns.
Preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual multi-jurisdictional WCB returns & payments.
Process company credit card and out-of-pocket expenses in Concur.
Extract & import expenses from Concur into accounting software.
Review and upload bi-weekly construction field hourly payroll into accounting software.
Annual budgeting.
Assist with annual financial audit.
Prepare and distribute weekly reports for Construction Group.

Other:

Special projects and tasks as assigned by the Divisional Accounting Manager.
Other related duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
Serves as back-up for the A/R function for vacation relief.
Job Costing.

Minimum Qualifications & Education

Post-Secondary education with a focus in Accounting. Preference will be given to candidates working toward their CPA designation.
Minimum five (5) years’ experience with full cycle accounting within the construction industry. Demonstrated experience in job costing.
Sound knowledge of progress billings, retentions, job costing etc.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and accounting software packages.
Knowledge of interdivisional transactions and allocations.
Commissioner for Oaths would be considered an asset but not required.
