JOB DESCRIPTION – Agriculture Manager
The Agriculture Manager is part of the management team, which, led by the General
Manager, oversees all the activities of the Association. Reporting directly to the General
Manager, this position is responsible for the planning and executing of designated
Agriculture events and activities of the Association. This individual must be creative and innovative, self-motivated, possess good time management skills, ability to multi-task, be highly organized and detail-oriented for the facilitation events throughout the year. This individual should have a well-developed understanding of the Agriculture industry; a 4-H background and experience in event management is an asset.
Responsibilities and Duties:
A) Events responsible for:
- Progress Steer & Heifer Show & Junior Shows
- Light Horse Clinics
- 4-H Judging and Grooming
- Rare and Exotic Sales
- 4-H Horse Grooming
- Ag Education
- Farm Safety Day
- 4-H Expo Regional Show
- Fair
- Beef Pen Show
- Sheep Show
- Working Horse Events – Team Roping, Team Sorting, Gymkhana
- Draft Horse Show and Draft Horse Pull
- Stockade Roundup
- Liaison for Agriculture Rental Events for the Association
- Production Sales
- Equine Events
- 4-H Events
- PBR Bull Riding
- Liaison to contact volunteers for events working the Event Team Leader of the Event.
- Any other Agriculture event or activity as directed by the General Manager
B) Develop new Agriculture programs and activities for the Association
C) Provide support to signature Association events
D) Maintains regular communication with the Management Team to review, evaluate and update on progress of designated events/activities.
E) Work collaboratively with the Management Team and/or Committee Chairperson of each event to compose and produce Association designated events and or activities.
F) Ensures events expenditures are managed within pre-approved budgets.
G) In consultation with the committee chairperson and/or the General Manager, performs the following functions for the assigned committees/events:
- Prepares committee budgets with Finance Manager for recommendation to the General Manager
- Notifies all committee members of meeting time and location
- Prepares agendas and records minutes for committee meetings for the Board of Directors meeting held every month.
- Administration letters required for the event specific
- Sponsorship letters and contacting sponsors for event specific
- Ensures operational follow-through on committee decisions (i.e. ensures facilities and appropriate services are booked for events)
- Develop necessary documents (i.e.: show programs, catalogues) for the event
- Liaison with special contractors to supply needs for event
- Liaison with all staff the requirements for the event (i.e. marketing plan for event, food requirements, facility set up)
- Complete necessary invoicing for event specific, (i.e. sponsorship, exhibitors)
H) As requested by the General Manager, provides written reports to the General Manager and/or the Board of Directors.
I) Represents the Association to the community at large and at various industry functions when directed by the General Manager.
J) Develop and maintain organizational safety program
J) Other duties as directed by the General Manager.
Accountabilities
- The Agriculture Manager is expected to work collaboratively with the Management Team, but is ultimately accountable to the General Manager and takes direction from only the General Manager.
- On occasion and dependent upon the activity, the General Manager may formally appoint a designate on his/her behalf (i.e. committee chairperson). In this instance, the Agriculture Manager will report directly to the designate.
- The Agriculture Manager is accountable for providing exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers of the Association.
- It is expected that all who work with the Agriculture Manager will be dealt with in a cooperative, respectful, polite and fair manner.
- All information pertaining to the business operations of the Association will be kept confidential.
- The Agriculture Manager is required to work evenings and weekends as the majority of Association’s events are not during business hours. (i.e.: committee meetings or events).Business hours of the Association are 8:00 am – 12:00 Noon and 1:00pm to 5:00 pm daily.
Qualifications
Personal Suitability
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to communicate directly with staff and volunteers are essential.
- The Agriculture Manager must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where he/she may be managing several projects simultaneously.
- Consequently, he/she must be well organized and able to prioritize tasks quickly and effectively.
- As most Association activities and events do not occur during regular business hours, the Agriculture Manager must have strong time management ability and flexible with evening and weekend work as required.
- Ability to problem solve in a cooperative fashion and to successfully negotiate conflicting situations is critical.
- The Agriculture Manager must be able to work in a team environment and assume a leadership role when appropriate.
Knowledge & Experience
- A broad understanding of the Agriculture industry is essential; knowledge of livestock is an asset.
- A minimum Grade 12 education is required. However, post-secondary education in event management or a related field of study is an asset.
- The ability to use appropriate software applications for the production of promotional materials is required.
- The ability to develop creative and innovative events is essential.
- Must have knowledge of all Microsoft Suite programs with a solid understanding of Word, Excel, and Access
- Experience with event management and coordination is preferred.
- Past exposure with a non-profit association is an asset.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $48,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
