Your Key Responsibilities

Using standard techniques prepare samples for evaluation of metallurgical specified characteristics.
Set up and operation of cut off saw, mounting presses, grinding/polishing units and other sample preparation equipment.
According to specified procedures prepare and use chemicals etchants as required for metallurgical evaluation.
Perform micro and macro evaluations of all prepared samples according to specificed inspection procedures. Including evaluations of grain size, carbide morphology, surface defects and other micro-structural characteristics.
Set up, calibration and operation of all department hardness testers.
Generation of hardness profiles according to routered specifications and/or drawing requirements.
Set up and operation of optical emmission spectrometer for chemical analysis of samples.
Complete metallurgical labratory reports as required by internal/external customers.
Perform basic problem solving and troubleshoot to resolve production/process issues to meet required standards.
Responsible for quality and quantity of work produced by process. Monitor production process according to maintenance schedule and perform routine maintenance in timely manner.
Required to perform inspection on own work using precision measuring equipment as provided or directed to assess quality of work.
Follow and accurately record data as directed or required in routers, IMS and any other production tracking systems.
Required to train other operators as needed.
May be required to work in other departments or occasionally to set up a process for others to operate.
Ability to read and interpret production prints.
Requires adequate computer skills to access production procedures to perform the required work.
Responsible for excellent housekeeping and maintaining 5S in all areas.

Your Qualifications

Education: Grade 12 diploma
Experience: Related labratory and/or heat treating/metallography experience/aptitude
