Course Information

A focus on curriculum and pedagogical approaches to the teaching, learning and assessment and evaluation of Canadian and World Studies is explored with a goal of creating critically thoughtful and informed citizens who value an inclusive society, and have the skills they need to solve problems and communicate ideas. (1.0 credit)

Geography - A critical review of current issues and research in geography education, and how they can be integrated into the curriculum (e.g., the use of spatial geotechnologies, environmental and living in a sustainable world)
History - A critical review of current issues and research in history education, and how they can be integrated into the curriculum (e.g., social, economic and political developments and their impact on the lives of different groups over time; national identity and culture; major developments)
Economics - A critical review of current issues and research in economics education, and how they can be integrated into the curriculum (e.g., issues and challenges facing the Canadian economy; role of individuals, government; international economic issues, developments and policies; key issues and practices)
Law - A critical review of current issues and research in law education, and how they can be integrated into the curriculum (legal issues relevant to Canadians; need for laws, rights; principles of Canadian and International law)
Civics and Citizenship - A critical review of current issues and research in civics and citizenship education, and how they can be integrated into the curriculum (e.g., influencing change amongst diverse societies; understanding power, and how political systems can be used for the common good; planning for the global community)

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for all activities associated with the successful delivery of the course, including but not limited to: developing, preparing, and delivering the course; setting and marking examinations, assessing the academic work of students, and reporting grades.

Candidates must be willing to undertake training as required by the Employer including, but not limited to, training in respect of health and safety, harassment and discrimination, and legislated service standards.

Qualifications

Qualifications (Minimum Required):

Demonstrated qualifications and experience teaching two or more of: Geography, History, Law, Civics and Citizenship, or Economics at the Senior level.
Demonstrated record of effective teaching practice.
Master’s degree, Specialist Qualification, or equivalent in a relevant subject area.

Preferred Qualifications / Assets:

Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification in good standing or held within the last five years.
Experience delivering Canadian and World Studies content across multiple strands (e.g., integrated programs or cross-curricular projects).
Familiarity with Ontario Ministry of Education documents, including The Ontario Curriculum: Canadian and World Studies, Grades 9–12 and Growing Success.
Demonstrated engagement with equity-oriented and decolonizing pedagogies in social studies education.
Experience supporting teacher candidates in post-secondary or teacher education contexts.

Course offerings could be assigned to the workload of full-time faculty or to part-time faculty with seniority or preference rights in accordance with the Faculty Collective Agreement, or left unfilled based on operational/enrolment requirements. All positions are subject to budget approval.
