Position Summary
Alco Energy Canada is accepting resumes for the Temporary Process Operator position. This position will start as soon as possible and end on or before December 31st, 2026. The successful candidate will report to the Control Room Supervisor or designate. The Process Operator will be responsible for taking direction in operating varied processes to produce ethanol, corn oil, and dried distillers’ grains. In this position, the successful candidate will possess a mechanical aptitude and display an interest/knowledge of the chemical process to produce a quality product with adherence to quality standards and health and safety practices.
The successful candidate must be comfortable with rotating 12-hour shifts, which ensures support of 24/7 continuous operations. Steam time opportunities may be provided to support advancement through the TSSA certification process.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
- Completed or currently pursuing certification in a related field such as Chemical Processing, Power Engineering or Brewery Operations, etc. or possess relevant experience.
- Ability to work rotating shift schedule (including days, evenings, and weekends) in support of 24/7 continuous operations.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and analytical ability.
- Excellent multi-tasking, organizational, and work prioritization skills.
- Fluent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated:

o proficiency in all forms of written communications.
- Proven positive attitude.

Responsibilities
- Work as part of a team of Process Operators responsible for cook, distillation, and evaporation duties in operating a 100-million-gallon ethanol plant.
- Attend to additions, corrections, maintenance issues if required, process area cleaning and other duties related to production.
- Strict adherence to SOP’s is mandatory.
- Take samples, operate lab testing equipment, and record results.
- Ensure accuracy of ethanol transfers to correct shipping tanks, meter readings, appropriate paperwork, and communication with Control Room Supervisor.
- Assist DCS Operator to control process by making field adjustments, set point changes, and troubleshooting to ensure continuous production of ethanol and co-products.
- Complete monthly checks of eye wash & shower stations, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, and ladders.
- Pump water in tank farm berms, distillation, etc.
- Participate as attendant when colleague working in confined space.
- Participate in general upkeep of process filters and screens, keeping free of debris.
- Complete testing on pond water prior to being released to environment.
- Adhere to standards and when discrepancies are identified to initiate action to the operations team (Production Manager/Shift Supervisor or Lead Process Operator) and/or Operations Manager.
- Must fully participate in the training required to perform the position.
- Act as a representative of the company when communicating with customers, contractors, and vendor
- Form decisions with a commonsense approach that supports the best interest of AEC
- Attend the required shift rotation.
- Perform other duties as delegated and assigned.
Health & Safety Aspects
The successful candidate must comply with the health and safety rules defined in AEC’s Employee Handbook. The candidate must comply with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and use all equipment, protective devices and/or clothing required by AEC.
Use of the following clothing and personal protective equipment is required:
- 100% Cotton or FR rated Clothing
- Long Sleeve Shirt
- AEC approved safety work boot (CSA approved; steel toed, minimum 6” etc.)
- Hard hat (except in clearly defined office areas)
- Safety Glasses
- Hearing protection (where required)
- High visibility clothing (uniform/vest/coat)
- Respiratory protection (where required)
- Other PPE as required
The successful candidate must fully participate in the training required to perform in the position. This includes, but is not limited to, worker health & safety awareness, forklift, aerial work platforms, confined space entry & rescue, first aid training etc. This position requires the candidate to be clean shaven to ensure a proper seal when wearing respiratory protection. Candidate must be aware of vehicle traffic, such as fork-lifts, pay loaders, and tractor trailers.
Mental and Physical Effort
- The position requires multi-tasking while maintaining focus of all steps in the process. The Process Operator must display strong attention to detail and demonstrate strong organizational skills.
- The position requires working under pressure to carry out operations for the safe and efficient operation of the Plant.
- The Process Operator must be able to work independently and demonstrate a high level of professionalism at all times.
- At times can be moderately physically demanding. Physical Requirements include walking, standing, climbing stairs and ladders, and lifting. Candidate will also be required to lift and pour additives into blend tank (25-50 lbs.) as needed.
- Auditory distractions may include conversations between colleagues, phones ringing, alarms sounding, motors running, and other loud noises. Visual distractions may include movement of people, vehicles, or objects.
- Communication is essential so candidate will need to have effective verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to prioritize tasks/situations and recognize when to self-address or escalate to management.
Working Conditions
- Office work and outdoor activities in areas with automated, noisy, and rotating machinery.
- Outdoor activity in all weather conditions.
- From time to time will be exposed to long work hours and potential non-standard shifts
- Will work both in an office and laboratory setting and throughout the facility as required.
