At Middlesex Terrace, we are committed to providing exceptional care and fostering a warm, supportive environment for our residents. We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our team as Associate Director of IPAC.
Position Overview:
The Associate Director of IPAC is accountable to the Director of Clinical Services and the corporate IPAC Lead. The goals for this position will include protecting residents and others in the home from infections resulting in reduced morbidity and mortality; preventing the spread of infections among those inside the home and from the community to the home.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the PCC Infection Control tab and monitor all areas identified.
- Trending and analysis of infections as well as audit findings.
- Provide Education to staff re: infection prevention and control practices.
- Implementation of directives related to infection prevention and control.
- Training essential caregivers related to infection prevention and control.
- Monitoring of antibiotic resistant organisms in the home.
- Monitoring/planning for resident immunizations.
- Promote staff immunizations and ensure records are maintained.
- Work closely with environmental services re: cleaning and disinfection techniques.
- Sharing and disseminating IPAC knowledge and expertise with home staff.
- Integrating surveillance (and/or testing) findings and informal plans for IPAC in the LTC home.
- Implementing IPAC policies and procedures on currently accepted best practices and legislative and/or program requirements.
- Communicating and providing resources and other supports needed to ensure appropriate practices are followed.
- Participating in local IPAC community of Practice and/or IPAC Hub.
- Participate in discipline and coaching with IPAC practices.
- Responsible for PPE Tracking and ordering supplies
- Lead for IPAC program
- Lead for Education program.
- Lead for Quality program including data collection and analysis.
- Lead for Outbreak management
- Flexible working hours/days to allow for occasional pre planned shifts on/during afternoons, nights and weekends.
- Maintaining Line listings for outbreaks.
- Audits (hand hygiene, PPE, glow germ, environmental, dining room etc)
- Surveillance of infections in the home
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of the Queen’s online IPAC Course (or equivalent with approval from the Corporate IPAC Consultant) is mandatory.
- Education and experience in;
- infectious diseases
- cleaning and disinfection
- data collection and trend analysis
- reporting protocols
- outbreak management
- Knowledge of the following is encouraged:
- Asepsis
- Microbiology
- Policy development
- Epidemiology
- Individualized patient care practices relevant to the scope of the service within the home
Physical Requirements:
- Lifting alone, maximum 50 lbs (5-25 lbs usual) as an essential job function.
- Lifting with assistance, maximum 160 lbs (100-150 lbs usual) as an essential job function.
- Pushing/pulling, using wheeled equipment such as cart, trolleys, with contents that weight a maximum 100 lbs (20-50 lbs usual) as an essential job function.
- Walking, with possibly some upstairs walking, to a maximum of 3 hours (1-2 hours usual) as an essential job function.
- Bending/stooping on a regular frequency throughout the shift as a non-essential job function.
- Health and Safety responsibilities.
Salary:
- $67,717 to $79,011 per annum
