Before and After School Educator

Department Childcare

Position Title Before and After School Educator

Hours of Work 25 hours weekly – 7am - 9am & 3pm - 6pm Monday to Friday

Position Type Term Position (10 months – Sept. 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027) – Duration of the school year

Reports To Director of Lumsden Childcare

Start Date September 1, 2026

Salary $15.35 per hour

Work Location Onsite — Lumsden Childcare Centre

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under the general supervision of the Director of the Center for Play and Development the Before and After School

Educator is responsible to maintain and develop the children’s program with their group of school aged children in the

before and after school program.

This position is responsible to maintain and develop children's morning and afternoon programs while attending the B&A

program. Team Members are responsible for developing short and long range of activities. These individuals are

responsible for daily communication with the parent(s), child(ren), Assistant Director, and Director regarding any

concerns, needs, and guidance.

The role requires walking in all four seasons with the children to and from school as well as daily bus scheduled pick up

and drop off. This team member must adhere to all the policies and regulations as set out in the policy manual.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Programing (40%)

Develop both long- and short-range activities in accordance with Play and Exploration, developmentally appropriate

practice and program philosophy. The includes:

Research and prepare materials necessary for activities

Work in a team approach with other educators

Arrange a classroom environment in accordance with program goals and philosophy

Implement a program to develop physical, intellectual, social and emotional needs of the children

Completes weekly plans

Completes progress reports, quarterly or bi-yearly, depending on age group.

Inspect and report damaged or lost materials.

Health & Safety Regulations (30%)

It is the responsibility of the childcare worker to ensure a safe and healthy environment is maintained. This is done by:

Reporting any suspected abuse to the manager

Keeps area in a clean, safe and sanitary condition (includes daily, weekly, monthly cleaning duties).

Aware of fire evacuation and all emergency procedures

Constant observation and supervision of children required at all times.

Communication (20%)

The Child Care Worker develops positive, open communication with the children and their parents. This is done by:

Maintain daily open communication with parents

Maintain confidentiality

Promote children’s activities through visuals.

Administration (10%)

This position must ensure the necessary administrative tasks are completed to meet the requirement policies and practices.

These include but are not limited to:

Records and shares information between staff, parents and manager

Attends workshops and staff meetings

Keep all appropriate records such as records, attendance and time sheets.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education

Grade 12 certificate

Basic First Aid/CPR or willingness to complete within three months of being on the job

Experience

Experience working with children;

Experience in a nonprofit, voluntary, or social service setting is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Legally allowed to work 25 hours per week

Good written and verbal communication

Criminal record check with vulnerable sector is required

Connections with and knowledge of the Regina business community

Experience working in and/or deep understanding of trauma-informed practice.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work Location: Onsite at Lumsden Childcare Centre, Lumsden.

Physical Demands: Typical office environment with standard physical requirements, including extended periods of

computer use. To support volunteer activities, some lifting, standing, or walking for extended period of times may be
required.

Schedule: 25 hours per week (7am - 9am & 3pm - 6pm Monday to Friday)

Pre-Employment: A criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check where applicable, may be required

following a conditional offer of employment. Results will be assessed in relation to the duties of the role and will not

automatically disqualify candidates.
