Sunday Silence Coffee Co is a small business that is focused on building relationships while consistently delivering exceptional coffee. Your role is to maintain and build those relationships with customers (wholesale & online) while overseeing general operations in tandem with our owners.
Company Description
Sunday Silence Coffee Co, located just outside of beautiful Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, is the province’s first small batch Coffee Roaster to use a Loring machine. One of the most energy efficient and eco-friendly roasters on the market. The Loring roaster reduces our carbon footprint by cutting the CO2 emissions by 80%.
We roast premium, highly scored green beans from around the globe; ethically sourced through small co-ops with fair or direct trade status. We believe in roasting the best coffees we can find, so you can enjoy them intentionally; whether among good company or in times of quiet and solitude. We love to serve our community and support charity causes specifically in the standardbred racehorse industry.
Preferred Qualifications & Requirements:
- Content strategy & data analysis (social media, marketing etc) generating sales & brand consistency
- Creative abilities some web & graphic design would be ideal additional assets
- Self-motivated, personable and capable of working independently
- Able to identify and engage new potential customers with ease to generate sales
- You are a problem solver and diligent in seeing various tasks executed thoroughly to completion
- Administratively strong and detail oriented and excellent organization skills
- Provides excellent customer service in a professional and approachable manner
- You’re naturally outgoing, proactive and maintain a positive outlook and of course have an interest in coffee
Must Possess: valid driver's license and reliable/insured vehicle.
Compensation/Work Term Duration
We anticipate a start date around July 15, 2026 with flexibility of 10-15 hours/week for training and gearing up for some summer/fall sales events. Hours will increase by the end of August/early September where you will need to be available 20-25hrs/week.
This work term will finish October 2027. With potential to extend part-time beyond and grow with us. Someone with strong marketing and sales skills will be preferred in this case to continue helping us grow our company in the desired directions.Compensation rate starts at $19 hourly, negotiable depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development
Marketing
- Managing social media (Facebook & Instagram) through Meta
- Creating marketing materials for online customers, scheduling branded content, advertising any promotions or discounts, use of Canva Professional
Communications
- Monitoring emails daily for new sales or customer issues, responding in a timely manner to all communications with existing and new customer queries
- Scheduling emails to remind wholesale customers about reordering via Benchmark/Shopify
- Ensuring invoices have been sent by fulfillment staff, and adding new wholesale clients
- Organizing and sharing expense transactions with finance department (owner) ensuring all invoices/bills are forwarded along in a timely manner
- Taking customer inquiries and promptly responding via phone/email
Sales
- Reaching out to the public to create connections of potential new clients
- Identifying opportunities for new sales relationships and brand alignment
- Updating website with product information via Shopify: i.e. seasonal or new coffee, managing coffee subscriptions through Seal Subscriptions, setting up any possible discount codes, monitoring customer subscriptions for errors or anomalies and communicating in a timely manner to resolve customer order issues
Fulfillment & Operations Customer Order Management
- Receiving/prioritizing orders through Neartail wholesale ordering system/Email and Shopify sales channels
- Inputting & fulfilling orders (online & wholesale), creating & sending invoices via Quickbooks with care to special instructions for shipping policies and payment terms
- Packaging coffee & orders for online & wholesale customers
- Inventory management of packing & shipping materials, coffee stock & general office materials and proactive communication
- Finding discounted shipping prices via MBW, Canada Post & UPS, and communicating deliveries
- Communicating with customers where appropriate, monitoring emails and special order requests
- Receive shipments of coffee green beans and other supplies
Facility Duties (Shared): Maintenance/Janitorial
- Keep roasting room tidy
- Ensuring that machinery is kept in good working order and working properly
- Alert of any concerns regarding building, equipment
Work Environment / Hours of Operation
Our Roastery is located on owners’ private property in a quiet, small community outside of Mahone Bay. Owners’ dogs are present on site, we are welcoming all dog lovers!
Indoor office & manufacturing space, loud noise from grinders & roaster. You will be able to comfortably lift 30-50lb, use a dolly, climb step ladders and lift objects overhead. A typical day involves computer work, standing, moving around from different locations to bag coffee, seal bags, lifting bins of coffee, pack boxes, lift boxes etc. You will be fully immersed in the aroma of coffee and possibly drinking coffee, all day long.
Preference will be given to those who are able to work Monday to Wednesday between 9am - 4pm. Our typical operations run from Monday - Friday and we are closed on stat holidays and weekends. As part of the team, you will play a vital role working closely alongside our Roaster and Owner of the company on a daily basis.
Interviewing Process
We will conduct a two part series for those shortlisted for an interview. Part 1 will involve an initial in-person meeting onsite to share your background and experience. If selected to attend part 2, you will get to demonstrate some of your skills for the role while seeing what a typical day would include. In this session you will join the team for up to 90 minutes to work through a list of daily tasks where you can demonstrate your problem solving and creative skills. While learning more about the operations. In addition, this is your chance to stand out and share more with us what additional assets you would bring to the team as we talk about our vision for the future in growing our company with a passion for serving our community.
