Position Overview:
We are seeking a HVDC Reliability Construction Section Head to join our HVDC Reliability Construction Department. Under the
general direction of the Manager of the HVDC Reliability Construction Department, the Construction Section Head will provide
strategic leadership and have overall responsibility for project management, as it pertains to the construction, from the planning
phase through closure for the HVDC Reliability Project. The Construction Section Head will collaborate across the enterprise in order
to align with overall corporate strategies and the project execution plan.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership to the HVDC Reliability Construction Department, working closely with all Section Heads throughout the
enterprise to communicate capital project priorities, ensure resource allocation to meet these priorities, maintain knowledge of
long-term requirements, advance the practice of project management, support strategic priorities, and promote a ONE project
team culture.
- Direct activities and assignments and supervise the performance of Professional Engineers and other technical and project
management staff responsible for managing all phases of the HVDC Reliability Program, including planning, environmental
licensing and property requirements, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project close-out.
- Provide expertise in the field of Project Management. Plan, develop, and deliver project execution plans and key project
management deliverables across multiple business units as they relate to the HVDC Reliability Program construction.
- Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to project team staff in the management of project controls, project estimates,
technical scope of work, schedule, and construction.
- Monitor project participants' progress and hold parties accountable for initiating and/or adhering to the technical scope of the
work, the project schedule, and the approved budget.
- Responsible for establishing a risk management plan and contingency allowance for construction based on risk impact
assessment and managing funds accordingly.
- Prepare regular progress reports for team and senior management, highlighting key milestones, challenges, and performance.
- Respond to complex, potentially sensitive external customer/stakeholder queries.
- Manage deviations to the technical scopes of work, project estimates, and schedules, and form recommendations on how to
deal with their impacts.
- Lead and manage project safety practices, environmental practices and competencies as required for staff and for program
construction delivery.
- Support program and project governance structure that empowers and enables project managers and teams and effectively
solves problems.
Qualifications:
- Graduate in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering from a university of recognized standing, with a minimum of seven
years of related experience, of which five years of experience must have been in project or construction management and
