Climate Futures & Earth Observation Communications Intern
Organization: Shift Ground Axis
Location: Winnipeg, MB
Work arrangement: Hybrid
Job type: Internship / Full-time temporary
Duration: July 6, 2026 – December 31, 2026
Hours: 30 hours per week
Pay: $18–$22 per hour, depending on experience and final funding approval
About the Role
Shift Ground Axis is hiring a Climate Futures & Earth Observation Communications Intern to support our work in climate adaptation, environmental learning, Earth observation, public awareness, and youth green economy pathways.
This role is ideal for a young person interested in climate futures, environmental communication, psychology, AI-era information, Earth observation, research, youth engagement, and community resilience.
The intern will help translate climate and environmental information into simple, useful materials that youth, communities, and partners can understand and use.
This is not a general social media or marketing role. It is a research, communication, and knowledge translation role focused on climate information, public awareness, and environmental decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
The intern may support the following activities:
- Research climate adaptation, wildfire risk, heat, water stress, vegetation change, food-system vulnerability, and environmental resilience.
- Review Earth observation and satellite-derived information in simple, accessible ways.
- Help translate climate and environmental research into plain-language briefs, visuals, learning materials, and public awareness content.
- Explore how youth and communities understand climate risk, uncertainty, motivation, climate anxiety, and action.
- Support responsible AI-assisted research related to climate futures, environmental learning, and public communication.
- Help develop youth-facing materials connected to climate adaptation, green jobs, environmental literacy, and future skills.
- Support notes, summaries, and documentation from community or partner learning conversations.
- Help identify barriers that prevent people from understanding or acting on climate information.
- Work with Shift Ground Axis staff to turn research and communication insights into practical tools and next steps.
