Sanitation Technician
Location: Winnipeg, MB
Status: Full time, Permanent
Reports to: Maintenance Manager
Hours: Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Position Summary: The Sanitation Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, safe, and organized facility in compliance with company standards, Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), Good Production Practices (GPPs), and applicable health and safety regulations.
This role supports both production sanitation activities and general custodial duties throughout the facility, including cleaning, disinfecting, and waste management. The successful candidate plays a key role in protecting product quality, food safety, employee health, and overall operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), Good Production Practices (GPPs), and all food safety requirements.
- Collect, handle, and dispose of waste and recycling materials in accordance with company procedures
- Complete sanitation activities according to established schedules and maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Identify sanitation, housekeeping, or facility-related concerns and promptly report them to the Sanitation Shift Lead or Supervisor.
- Assist in investigating and resolving sanitation-related quality concerns and support corrective actions as required.
- Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams to continuously improve sanitation practices and processes.
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment safely and efficiently.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Follow established procedures to prevent cross-contamination and maintain a safe working environment.
- Maintain a professional and respectful approach when working independently or as part of a team.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in sanitation or industrial cleaning environments is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, sanitation practices, equipment, and safe handling procedures.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety, food safety, quality, and cleanliness standards.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify cleanliness or sanitation deficiencies.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills and willingness to take direction and learn new procedures.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive movements.
- Comfortable working in varying environmental conditions, including production and sanitation environments.
- Reliable, dependable, and committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and professionalism.
