Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Manager, Process R&D Engineering, the Process R&D Engineer will be challenged to implement innovative methods to optimize the thermal carbon black production process and supporting infrastructure through collaborative and inventive efforts. The Process R&D Engineer will also be responsible for carrying out Cancarb’s innovation initiatives in new product development and optimizing environmental processes as well as support the drive to explore scientific research on carbon black production. The role will require a sharp, curious, and creative mind to drive Cancarb’s process innovation.
Qualifications:
· Minimum of an Undergraduate Degree from a leading Canadian University in Chemical or Process Engineering.
· 3-5 years’ experience in an industrial or plant environment, preferably hydrocarbon-based.
· Self-driven with a proven track record of active, hands-on participation in a challenging industrial plant. Equally comfortable operating in an office environment.
· Experience in the areas of process analysis and data analytics and industrial process control considered an asset.
· Experience in Project Management in a process or power plant environment would be advantageous.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with a keen attention to detail.
· Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and CAE software.
· Experience in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet automation and PI System is desirable.
· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills across many work groups and individuals.
· Ability to manage and complete multiple tasks and challenges concurrently.
· Valid Driver’s license and willingness to travel as required.
· Current engineer-in-training (E.I.T.) or professional engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
This position requires candidates to:
- Plan and manage the implementation of innovative projects to optimize the thermal carbon black production process.
- Develop management of change (MOC) requests for new projects and participate in hazard and operability studies (HAZOPs) as required.
- Support process improvement strategies.
- Support the development of new processes for higher efficiency and cost effectiveness.
- Conduct trials using Cancarb’s pilot and production scale reactors, including assembly and maintenance of testing facilities and equipment.
- Collaborate on new applications, product development and product studies and evaluations.
- Monitor and report various operating statistics related to carbon black production and recovery.
- Provide technical support and participate in major environmental and process improvement capital initiatives.
- Support sustainability projects.
- Monitor and follow technical trends in the production of carbon black and related products.
- Support strategies and responses to changing technology and market conditions.
- Interact and work closely and consistently with R&D, Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Marketing personnel to ensure the Process R&D activities are aligned with the Company’s strategic goals, policies and procedures.
- Attend technical/scientific conferences and exhibitions to ensure awareness of the most advanced industrial technologies.
