K’en T’em Limited Partnership (KTLP) is a for-profit corporation committed to providing the Nlaka’pamux people of the eight Citxw Nlaka’pamux Assembly (CNA) Participating Bands with the resources that will help them efficiently create, manage and operate business opportunities. The Junior Biologist supports a range of field and office-based environmental services during this field season, with a focus on fish, wildlife, and habitat assessments. In this role, you will conduct field investigations, environmental monitoring, and biological data collection, while contributing to regulatory compliance, permitting, and reporting across multiple industries. Working closely with the Biologist and clients, you will help ensure environmental requirements are met while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, accuracy, and quality. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working extended hours in remote field conditions, while also collaborating effectively within a team.
Primary Duties
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures,
- Conduct field investigations and collect samples,
- Analyze biological data,
- Conduct fish and wildlife habitat assessments,
- Conduct fish and amphibian salvage,
- Conduct bird nest sweeps and surveys,
- Conduct environmental monitoring,
- Support with writing and submitting permits and authorizations,
- Work closely with clients to ensure regulatory requirements are met,
- Lead environmental and regulatory reporting activities for a variety of different industries,
- Carry out environmental data entry, review, and management,
- Liaise with clients for the purposes of facilitating compliance assurance, and
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Biologist or designate.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong technical writing skills,
- Experience with MS Office applications and GIS is considered an asset,
- Positive attitude towards complying with health and safety systems,
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment and manage time effectively,
- Ability to work productively with minimal supervision and work independently in remote locations, and outside in inclement weather conditions, and
- Willingness to learn or knowledge of beginner nłeʔkepmxcín, nłeʔkepmx cultural values and protocols while recognizing and respecting cultural diversity.
Experience and Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Biology, Natural Resources, or equivalent,
- BIT or RPBio designation, or on the pathway toward obtaining designation,
- 1-2 years of experience working in biology or related field is considered an asset,
- Current knowledge of BC fish and wildlife species and ecology,
- Current knowledge of BC and Federal legislation, government agencies and permitting procedures,
- Field experience in aquatic and/or terrestrial biology,
- Willingness to work variable shift lengths and times (including nights, weekends, and holidays), and
- Valid BC Class 5 Drivers License is required and a willingness to travel for work.
Work Environment
- Schedule: Weekly schedule is posted due to fluctuating office-work and field-work hours, with some weekend work required, on average 40 hours per week,
- Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be paid out at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be paid out at 2x,
- Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the K’en T’em office at 1355 Nicola Ave, Merritt, with the expectation of field work as needed, and
- Vacation: paid out bi-weekly at a rate of 4% in accordance to the BC Employment Standards Act ("ESA").
