OVERALL PURPOSE:
The Instructional Designer will be responsible for providing expert advice on all aspects of curriculum development, including the effective design, development and delivery of training through BCRTC Learning Management System, as well as class-based and on-the-job training. Participates in the assessment of the training needs of internal business clients and prioritizes eLearning initiatives. Transcribe needs analysis and functional specifications into detailed training materials. Supports ongoing improvements in the effectiveness of training content and changing delivery methods. Provides support for instructors and end-users using designated curricula in all modalities. Works as an effective support resource for BCRTC.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participates in the assessment of the training needs of internal business clients by:
Researching the subject using internal and external sources, job shadowing, learner feedback and working with subject matter expert to define occupational standards and competencies;
Identifying the performance gap between current and desired outcomes by consulting with business partners and the systematic review of learners;
Collaborating with Instructors, Senior Training Advisor and business partners to determine delivery opportunities, constraints and preferences and to develop appropriate learning objectives and content scope and sequence;
Analyzing the learner profiles and learning requirements and providing recommendations for the training design including content and delivery methods;
Designing curriculum maps that establish instructional and assessment strategies and define project milestones and timeframes.
Transcribe needs analysis and functional specifications into detailed training materials by:
Employing recognized adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies to translate curriculum maps and design plans into curriculum and content to be delivered in class, online and on-the-job;
Developing oral, written and performance assessments in alignment with performance criteria defined in the assessment process;
Developing content in variety of modalities (e.g., trainer guides, resource guides, job aids, video and elearning) in alignment with design plans and curriculum maps;
Transcribing existing training programs into online and blended formats that optimize the use of the BCRTC LMS, repackaging content as required;
Transcribing new training design and content into engaging face-to-face, blended and online content that is user-friendly;
Reviewing and editing content for accuracy, completeness and alignment with BCRTC training standards;
Developing, reviewing and editing storyboards and scripts in consultation with various stakeholders;
Utilizing rapid authoring tools such as Captivate and Articulate to create interactive, SCORM-compliant web-based training products; writing, performing and editing voice recordings for audio e-Learning as needed; Performing audio editing and synchronization of audio files with e-learning content; performing video editing for inclusion of video clips in e-learning courses.
Supports ongoing improvements in the effectiveness of training content and delivery method by:
Reviewing learners’ performance on assessments against anticipated outcomes/ assessment;
Modifying course content, delivery methods and/ or evaluation tools as per best practice;
Initiating creative ways to leverage the capabilities of the LMS and other technologies to improve the effectiveness and processes related to training courses and programs;
Integrating feedback from instructors and learners on course design, content to improve its efficacy in meeting learning objectives and building competencies.
Provides support for instructors and end-users using designated curricula in all modalities, including:
Conducting train-the-trainer sessions to introduce substantive changes;
Assessing the efficacy of content via pilot implementations;
Working with instructors and pilot end-users to identify and remediate gaps and changes;
Completing post-pilot reviews and ongoing minor and major revision cycles as required.
Works as an effective support resource for BCRTC, including:
Working collaboratively on current and future training goals, initiatives and planning processes;
Developing and leading workshops on curriculum development and elearning;
Liaising with staff throughout the Enterprise working on training, job aids, etc. to ensure that knowledge, tools and resources are shared effectively;
Participating in other instructor duties when required.
