Health & Safety Coordinator

Position Overview

As a Health & Safety Coordinator, you will support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of companywide health and safety programs. Working across one or more divisions and departments, you will plan, design, deliver, and evaluate occupational safety initiatives that keep our people safe and our operations compliant. A key part of this role is championing a positive safety culture — engaging workers at all levels and fostering an environment where safety is a shared value, not just a compliance requirement.

Responsibilities:

Compliance & Inspections

Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations and make recommendations for their implementation.
Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.
Monitor compliance with the company safety program by all Collaborative Structures Limited employees and subcontractors.
Develop and document safety standards in compliance with applicable industry standards and federal, provincial, and municipal regulations.
Ensure all safety standards and procedures remain current with evolving regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Develop and implement safety programs through active inspection of areas, equipment, processes, and work activities to identify and mitigate hazardous conditions; communicate and enforce these plans and programs as required.
Coordinate inspections, investigations, and occupational safety activities with departments.
Ensure the timely completion of accident/injury reporting to Corporate Office.

Training & Development

Research, plan, and deliver safety training programs for Collaborative Structures Limited supervisors and field employees, covering WHMIS, Fall Protection, Site Orientation, Personal Protective Equipment, CPR/First Aid, and other industry-relevant topics.
Develop and conduct occupational safety training for various workgroups, including evaluation and modification of programs to meet local, provincial, and federal OHSA requirements.
Provide guidance to field personnel via safety briefings.
Provide advice and counsel to management and other employee groups on a broad range of occupational safety issues and decisions.
Mentor and support junior safety personnel as needed.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

Coordinate the activities of other occupational safety personnel within one or more divisions and departments, if appropriate.
Plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate departmental occupational safety programs.
Direct and review the analysis of accident and injury data, identifying the needs for new or modified occupational safety programs.
Lead and participate in accident and incident investigations, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
Stay current on occupational safety research, emerging methods, and equipment to continually reduce workplace hazards.
Advise on improvements in tracking and reporting procedures.
Maintain and support the currency of the CSL Health & Safety Program in conjunction with the H&S Manager and Senior Management.

Education and Experience:

Proven experience as safety coordinator – minimum 2 years’ experience in the area of Health and Safety; preferably in a construction environment
Deep understanding of OHSA and all other applicable health and safety legislation
Demonstrated ability to produce clear written reports, develop practical safety policies, and apply data analysis and risk assessment techniques
Excellent organizational skills with outstanding attention to detail and strong communication and interpersonal abilities
Diploma/degree in occupational health & safety or relevant field is preferred
NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer), CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional), or equivalent certification is an asset
Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence and reliable access to transportation for multi-site travel
Proficiency with MS Office and experience with safety recordkeeping software and training databases
Familiarity with the IHSA Certificate of Recognition (COR) program and experience with Procore construction management software are assets

Working Conditions:

Office environment with occasional time spent on work sites in all types of weather conditions
Regular walking, standing, and climbing on active construction sites; ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally
Exposure to chemicals, noise, fumes, dust, and other site hazards; appropriate PPE required and provided
Approximately 60% office-based and 40% on active project sites across the Southern Ontario region; travel between sites required
Works closely with Project Managers, Site Superintendents, subcontractors, and the Corporate Office on a day-to-day basis
