Job description

We are immediately hiring a full time Experienced Pipelayer/Skilled Labourer to join our growing team in the Sewer & Watermain Division team! Our projects are throughout the Cambridge, On and surrounding area. We service municipal, commercial, civil, and earthworks. The successful candidate will have prior experience in all types of utility construction and installations; sanitary, storm, water, communications, and hydro.

The hours of work will consistently of 50 hours per week, (7 am–5 pm) depending on the contract and timeline—overtime, weekends and/or evenings also may be required.

Site Servicing - Storm and Sanitary Connection/Installation, Watermain, and Roadworks

Responsibilities:

Install pipe for water main, storm & sanitary, etc.
Grade trenches and culverts, positions pipe and seals joints
Use instruments including small equipment, lasers, grade rods, transit levels, compacting tools
Working in trenches and the labour duties as assigned
Being responsible for the efficient installation of all types and sizes of pipes
Works closely with Crew Lead and other team members to ensure that pipe is aligned and installed in accordance with project specification
Safely assembling and installing shoring cages
Working around live utility systems
Loading and unloading building materials and equipment as needed
Cleaning and maintaining sites to eliminate possible hazards and keep worksites clean and orderly
Ability to Install manholes, catch basins, lawn basins, and other pre-cast structures and PVC pipping
Benching & parging Structures
Strong safety awareness and ability to and adhere to industry practices and codes
Understanding of excavating and grading guidelines
Strong communication skills, coordinating with Crew Lead and Top Man Person and co-worker’s
Ability to read and understand construction drawings, perform job layout specifications & operate survey equipment such
Following instructions and operating as a productive member of a high functioning team
Working independently, as well as part of a team
Strong attendance & punctuality

Skills and Training:

3 years of pipe laying experience in sewer & watermain installation, grading and underground servicing
Pipe installation experience with storm, sanitary & watermain both (Concrete & PVC)
Experience with trenching, grading, road works, site servicing, building, setting, pipping, levelling, dig outs
Benching & parging structures
Proficiency in reading drawings
Complete understanding and compliance of safety procedures, especially around heavy machinery
G Class Drivers license with clear abstract
Proof of Certifications and/or tickets that apply: WHIMS, First Aid, Confined Spaces, Fall Protection, Working at Heights, Construction Safety Training, etc
Heavy equipment operation experiences an asset but not required
Experienced in using compaction tools
