Position Title: Economic Development and Tourism Officer
Reports To: Director of Economic Development and Tourism or Designate
Salary Range: $70,517.00 – 95,405.00 Annually
Position Summary: The Economic Development and Tourism Officer is responsible for facilitating, promoting, and ensuring economic and community development in order to secure opportunities for economic growth. This individual will identify and foster economic and community development and tourism opportunities and help small business owners and municipal partners secure funding for growth and innovation.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Business Administration or related field. Ec.D. designation would be an asset.
- Three (3) years of work experience in business development or a related field, preferable in the public sector.
- English is essential. Bilingualism considered an asset.
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
- Ability to travel as required
- Working knowledge of available economic and tourism resources in Miramichi’s service delivery area would be considered an asset.
- Proficient computer skills, including effective working skills with word processing, spreadsheets and email required
- High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to make sound decisions in a timely manner
- Ability to work independently as well as demonstrate teamwork and team building skills
- Ability to think strategically and prioritize tasks as needed
Responsibilities:
Liaison, Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the point of contact between the City’s partners, businesses, and individuals
- Serve as a liaison between local small business owners and federal/provincial representatives regarding economic and tourism development and funding
- Identify opportunities for joint ventures between the Municipality and local businesses/organizations, acting as a liaison between parties
- Conduct outreach to and engagement with external entities to promote opportunities for expansion or relocation
- Maintain collaborative relationships with the Regional Service Commission and tourism‑related partners, providing support when requested
Business Support, Advisory Service and Funding Assistance
- Assist local organizations, small businesses, and individuals in taking advantage of economic development and tourism opportunities.
- Assist local organizations and businesses with developing economic and community development proposals.
- Research public and private sector funding opportunities.
Research, Analysis & Strategic Insight
- Monitor and research local market opportunities, small business needs, and trends, and communicate findings to the Director
- Assist in researching and identifying emerging regional, national, and global economic trends compatible with Miramichi’s market, and evaluate strategic opportunities
- Maintain files and records on local businesses and economic development and tourism opportunities
Program, Project & Initiative Support
- Manage and/or provide support for initiatives of the Economic Development and Tourism Department
- Administration of various incentive programs offered by the City of Miramichi
- Maintain inventory of available City owned surplus properties
- Promotion of local economic development assets at various economic development forums
Other Duties
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
