JOB SUMMARY:
The incumbent provides direct support to the Codiac law enforcement activities as it engages community partners in problem solving and bridging the service gaps and increasing protective factors in individuals involved with the law. The incumbent will also provide general and specific assistance to the most at risk clients.
This position reports directly to the Manager of Community Policing Unit.

EDUCATION:
-
University degree in the area of Social Work and must be registered and a member in good standing with the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers. Other University degrees in sociology or other related disciplines may be considered.
EXPERIENCE:
-
Must have practical work experience with a minimum of three (3) years in social work or similar work. Experience with addictions and Mental Health issues is considered as a strong asset.

Must be familiar with social based services and programs offered in the nationally, provincially and locally.

Must have experience conducting interviews and assessments with clients
-
Must have public speaking experience as well as competence to organize and conduct public meetings and various consultations independently.

Must be self-motivated and show capability in program coordination and administration as well as strong abilities with respect to facilitation skills and strategic planning.
LANGUAGE:
-
English essential. The ability to communicate in both official languages is an asset, but not a requirement.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
-
Must be knowledgeable of the New Brunswick Occupational Health and Safety Act

The successful candidate will be familiar with the Vulnerable Sector community as well as the social culture of the Greater Moncton area.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. Knowledge of Windows applications such as Internet/Intranet.

The position requires strong communication skills both written and oral, self-motivation, good organizational skills and an ability to work in a team environment.
OTHER:

Must have and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
CONTACT:

Requires internal and significant external contact. The candidate must be able to communicate in an effective, professional manner. The incumbent initiates and maintains contacts with the appropriate community organizations relative to facilitating their needs. Contacts also include relevant Provincial and national associations.
JUDGMENT:
-
The incumbent must be able to devise courses of action to solve problems. They must also be able to manage multiple assignments at one time. Duties with respect to community development will involve the ability to provide advice and direction to community based organizations and the Codiac RCMP.
SUPERVISION:
-
This position includes facilitation, coordination and training of volunteers, volunteer groups, summer students, part-time casual staff or contract staff.
CONDITIONS OF WORK:

Hours of work will be as per the City of Moncton CHEA/PSAC Local 60200 Collective Agreement. Subject to change due to operational requirements (example: 4 days on / 4 days off)

Working with clients demonstrating high risk factors and behaviors

Position involves variable hours, given the special population area of responsibility weekend and evening work are occasionally required with this position as well as some travel.

It is a condition of employment that the incumbent must be of the highest integrity and character and will be subjected to RCMP security screening. This involves background and character investigation of successful applicants and their immediate families. This is required prior to the necessary level of security clearance being granted for this position. Must maintain necessary RCMP security clearance requirements for this position throughout the duration of employment. Failure to do so will result in loss of employment. Similarly, the incumbent’s use of all police information will be in accordance with RCMP policy, regulations and directives. Since the work is of a confidential nature, the incumbent must be prepared to undertake an Oath of Affirmation of Secrecy.
