The Opportunity
As part of the plant science team, the research assistant will work closely with the associate scientists and plant science managers and contribute to advancing plant science research. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in biological sciences, excellent organizational skills, strong data analysis capabilities, and a solid foundation in basic molecular techniques. The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills and a sense of urgency.
Duties
To collect and analyze data, assist in the design and execution of trials, assist with routine plant breeding and phenotyping, routine plant maintenance (such as cloning, sowing, watering, pruning, harvesting, etc.), occasional laboratory work, organizing daily priorities, and other duties as assigned.
To qualify, you have.......
- Minimum of B.Sc. (M.Sc. preferred) in plant science, plant pathology, genetics or equivalent sciences;
- 3+ years’ experience working in industry research setting, laboratory or agronomy;
- Excellent understanding of plant physiology and biology;
- Ability to hold and maintain Security Clearance as per ACMPR;
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral in English;
- Experience with SOPs, GPP and/or GMP;
- Clear accountability, proactive behaviour, critical thinking, and strong attention to detail;
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage own time;
- Proficiency in using MS Office applications;
- Ability to handle projects with multiple work streams both independently and within a team;
- Experience with statistical analysis;
- Ability to define goals, metrics, and levels of success;
- Must be able to work in adverse conditions. i.e. height, heat, humidity, and high-intensity lighting;
- Experience in production planning would be considered an asset.
Shifts will be Tuesday-Saturday
