Our HSE Team is growing. KPCL is seeking an experienced Site HSE Advisor to inspire and lead a culture of safety and compliance at one of our civil construction projects located in Estevan, Saskatchewan, working an 11 days on, 3 days off rotation.
Responsibilities
What You’ll Be Doing
- Provide guidance to project teams on health, safety and environmental (HSE) risks and controls;
- Prioritize a culture of safety and compliance amongst employees, contractors and clients through the ongoing implementation and monitoring of the HSE program;
- Support the HSE Manager in the development, revision and implementation of HSE policies and procedures to ensure they meet industry standards, legislation and regulatory requirements;
- Lead and facilitate toolbox meetings (alongside supervisors), safety meetings and joint OH&S committee meetings;
- Assess, implement and monitor controls to minimize risk across earthworks operations, including developing job hazard assessments, reviewing field level risk hazard assessments, observations and other leading indicators;
- Complete and facilitate onboarding and training for employees, contractors and visitors on assigned site, including scheduling training based on site requirements and updating employee records;
- Conduct inspections of job sites, facilities and equipment for compliance with health and safety legislation, documenting and taking action to resolve any non-compliance issues;
- Ensure emergency response plans are in place and posted;
- Lead investigations for near misses and incidents, root cause analysis of incidents, and identifying and implementing effective corrective actions to mitigate risk;
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with project team, clients, suppliers and other stakeholders;
- Manage site safety documentation to ensure it is accurate and up to date;
- Maintain inventory and supply of safety equipment purchased and issued;
- Work closely with HR to support accommodation and modified duty programs as required;
- Other such duties as required.
Qualifications
What You Bring
- Education: Working towards or completion of NCSO designation or an Occupational Health and Safety certificate/diploma from an accredited institution.
- Experience: 5 years experience with within the civil construction industry.
- Industry Exposure: Experience working outside of a corporate office environment, preferably in the heavy construction, industrial, mining or related industry
- Communication Skills: Effective verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to engage and influence individuals in different disciplines and at different levels
- Motivation: Energized by complexity and challenges, thriving in dynamic and evolving environments
- Adaptability: Quick to respond to changes while maintaining alignment with long term direction
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety legislation regulations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365
