Position Overview: We are looking for a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic to join our Mechanical Services team. The successful candidate will specialize in installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems across a range of new construction projects, such as mid-rise developments, hospitality venues, commercial spaces, and custom homes. The ideal candidate should possess a high level of technical expertise and have a strong commitment to delivering quality work. You will report to the VP of Mechanical Divisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and repair refrigeration, heating, and air conditioning systems for new construction projects, including mid-rise buildings, hotels, commercial properties, and custom homes.
- Perform inspections and tests on HVAC systems to ensure they meet safety and performance standards.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot refrigeration and air conditioning system malfunctions, providing effective and timely repairs.
- Collaborate with other trades (e.g., plumbers, electricians, and construction crews) to ensure the smooth integration of HVAC systems with the overall mechanical and building structures.
- Follow project blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to install HVAC systems according to job requirements.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on installed HVAC systems to minimize breakdowns and ensure long-term efficiency.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including work orders, system performance records, and maintenance logs.
- Stay updated on changes to local building codes and HVAC regulations, ensuring that all work complies with these standards.
- Assist in mentoring apprentices and less experienced technicians, ensuring that they adhere to safety protocols and high-quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations on all job sites.
Qualifications:
- Certificate of Qualification as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic (313A) or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience with installing and servicing commercial, industrial, and residential HVAC systems, particularly in new construction.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC system design, operation, and local building codes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing complex HVAC systems, including both refrigeration and air conditioning units.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and regulations related to HVAC systems.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills for working collaboratively with other trades and construction teams.
- Valid G driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience with HVAC systems in mid-rise residential buildings, hotels, commercial developments, and custom homes.
- Familiarity with the installation of energy-efficient systems and green technology.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
