Full job description

I am looking for a cook to join our team in Kanata from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays with the possibility of Wednesday hours as well. The position begins in mid-August.

Kristin McCaig Nutrition is a personal chef service that creates healthy, custom meals for our clients throughout the city of Ottawa. The menus are created by a holistic nutritionist with the goal of taking delicious comforting recipes and making them a step healthier (more veggies, better quality cooking oil etc).

Our clients are made of up of families and individuals who are looking for customized help with mealtime to make their lives easier. We also serve clients facing health challenges, seniors and people who simply want to improve their current health.

We cook in a commercial kitchen in Kanata. The fresh meals are delivered each day by our delivery services.

Because this is a CUSTOM meal service, this position requires

close attention to detail
memorizing of client preferences & allergies
very clear thinking and communication
excellent planning & organizational skills
the ability to create beautiful food. This is not fine dining but making food beautiful is always important.
good knife skills
decent computer skills as our recipe database and workflow are all app based
patience

We have fast paced busy days but this is quite a bit more relaxed than a large volume kitchen.

We are small group of mature cooks/chefs, looking for another cook /chef to join our team.

If you are a cook who

is very aware of small details
can sort through details even under pressure
truly cares about the quality of the food you put out
maintains high standards of cleanliness, organization, and food safety
can assist with inventory management
gets along well with people

you may be a great fit for our team. We work closely, so having patience and being able to see the joys in life is a huge asset because we prefer to spend the day in good company with lots of laughs and music.

Culinary training is highly preferred and at least 3 years commercial kitchen experience is a must.

Must have:

a vehicle or reliable transportation
up-to-date food handler's certificate (you can get this in time to start the position if you do not currently have it).
The ability to stand for long periods of time and lift heavy items overhead
Fluent english is required.

Hours are quite dependable but do vary at times based on how many clients we are serving each day.
