How will you contribute?

Join Senator Michèle Audette, a recognized Innu Indigenous leader and a passionate advocate for the rights of Indigenous peoples and Indigenous women and girls, in contributing to efforts to advance reconciliation, Indigenous rights, equity, and the transformation of relationships between Indigenous peoples and Canadian society. With several decades of engagement with Indigenous communities, experience in public policy, and her role in the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, Senator Audette brings to the Senate a unique perspective grounded in experience, leadership, and the pursuit of concrete solutions.

This position offers the opportunity to support her parliamentary work through research, analysis, writing, and stakeholder engagement. You will contribute directly to her work on issues affecting Indigenous peoples, Indigenous women and girls, reconciliation, and education, as well as to the analysis of legislation and public policy. You will also be called upon to support the office’s activities, committee work, and the Senator’s communications.

The person in this position is primarily responsible for research, information gathering and analysis, as well as the preparation of briefing notes, reports and documents intended to support the Senator in her parliamentary work.

The main responsibilities include:

Conduct research on legislation, public policy and social issues affecting Indigenous peoples, reconciliation and relations between Indigenous peoples and governments;
Prepare research notes, analyses, briefing notes, reports and briefing materials to support the Senator’s work in the Chamber and on committees;
Monitor relevant political, parliamentary and media developments, analyze their implications and prepare background notes for the Senator;
Draft speeches, statements, presentations, correspondence and other documents reflecting the Senator’s priorities and positions;
Conduct research and contribute to the development of positions on bills, policies and government initiatives related to Indigenous issues and reconciliation;
Represent the Senator at meetings, events and consultations with stakeholders, Indigenous organizations and other partners, and report on key developments;
Support the establishment and maintenance of collaborative relationships with communities, organizations and relevant stakeholders;
Manage various administrative tasks and contribute to the efficient, professional and collaborative operation of the office.

This role is well suited to a person deeply committed to public service, who demonstrates sound judgment, rigour and cultural sensitivity, and knows how to transform complex information into clear, relevant and accessible analyses and communication

The general public to fill one (1) full-time determinate one-year term position, with the possibility of renewal, in the Office of the Honourable Senator Michèle Audette.

Prerequisites

Post-secondary education in political science, public administration, law, Indigenous studies, social sciences, communications or a related field, or a combination of education and relevant professional experience;
Experience in research, analysis and the preparation of briefing notes, reports or briefing materials on complex issues;
Knowledge of Indigenous issues, reconciliation, the rights of Indigenous peoples and the realities experienced by Indigenous communities in Canada;
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information in plain language and present it in a clear, concise and accessible manner;
Ability to conduct rigorous research, assess different sources of information and formulate evidence-based analyses and recommendations;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ease in using various digital tools for research, communication and information management;
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment, work independently and collaboratively, and adapt to changing deadlines;
Bilingualism (French and English) is required. French is the working language of the office;
Familiarity with the functioning of the Parliament of Canada, parliamentary procedures, committee work and the legislative process; experience in a parliamentary or government environment is considered an asset;
Experience creating and monitoring social media content to support public engagement is considered an asset.
