MASS Excavation & Demolition is a fast-growing heavy civil contractor specializing in excavation, backfilling, site grading, remediation, and demolition across the National Capital Region. Our projects range from small residential digs to large commercial buildings, multi-unit developments, site servicing, parking lots, site grading, and full demolition packages.
We’re looking for a hands-on Foreman to lead crews on site, coordinate daily work, and drive production while protecting quality, safety, and profitability.
THE ROLE
As a Foreman, you will be the key leader responsible for the day to day operations of your assigned job site. You’ll lead the crew, coordinate operators, labourers, subcontractors, and deliveries, to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and profitably. You will communicate with management to ensure site conditions, production targets, and extra work are handled properly. You’ll be expected to solve problems in real time, keep the crew accountable, and make sure the site runs smoothly every day.

1. SITE LEADERSHIP
- Lead the crew on site and be accountable for all daily operations.
- Delegate tasks clearly and ensure all workers understand their roles and responsibilities.
- Hold crew members accountable to ensure productivity, quality, and jobsite standards.
- Lead by example by working alongside the crew to set the tone for work ethic, pace, and attitude.
2. SITE SAFETY
- Enforce proper PPE and safe work practices at all times.
- Complete all required safety documentation accurately and consistently.
- Identify hazards, and correct unsafe behaviour immediately to ensure no one gets hurt.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and controlled jobsite.
3. PRODUCTION
- Drive productivity and make sure the crew is hitting expected production targets.
- Identify and eliminate delays, inefficiencies, rework, and wasted time or material.
- Identify extra work, scope changes, and site instructions that fall outside original scope.
- Communicate and document extras clearly to help eliminate slippage..
4. COMMUNICATION & COORDINATION
- Coordinate with the site superintendent, other subtrades, and suppliers to ensure the site is organized and not unnecessarily delayed.
- Communicate clearly with the field manager regarding progress, issues, and needs.
- Ensure all required labour, materials, and equipment are available when needed.
- Keep all parties aligned so work can continue without interruption.
5. PROBLEM SOLVING
- Identify problems early and take action before they impact production.
- Think quickly and make decisions in the field to keep work moving.
- Resolve issues without stopping the job or waiting for direction.
- Escalate major issues when necessary, but take ownership of day-to-day problem solving.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:
- BY 6 MONTHS - You will have built a strong working relationship with your crew, sub trades, and site superintendents. You show up prepared everyday at least 30 mins before the start of the shift. Your crew is organized, productive, and understands expectations. The job runs smoothly with minimal errors or downtime.
- BY 12 MONTHS - Your site runs efficiently, safely, and without constant oversight. The Field Manager trusts you to consistently deliver results and keep jobs profitable. Your crew is accountable, productive, and works at a high standard. Other workers want to be placed on your crew because they know how well your sites are run. You are trusted to take on larger, more complex projects.

QUALIFICATIONS & WORK EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years’ experience in heavy civil construction (excavation, site servicing, grading, demolition, or similar).
- Ability to lead crews and delegate tasks effectively.
- Strong understanding of reading plans, grades, and site layouts.
- Strong communication skills with crews, management, and other trades.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel between sites in the Ottawa area.
Pay: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
