Full job description

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Assistant Manager, Fleet Maintenance to lead our vehicle and equipment maintenance operations. In this vital role, you will oversee the servicing, repair, and upkeep of a diverse fleet that includes heavy machinery, industrial equipment, and automotive vehicles. Your expertise will ensure that all fleet assets operate safely, efficiently, and reliably, supporting our operational excellence. This position offers an exciting opportunity to apply your mechanical knowledge and leadership skills in a fast-paced environment dedicated to safety and quality.

Duties

Supervise, monitor and assign daily maintenance activities for the fleet, including for highway tractors, trailers, and other equipment
Coordinate scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and extend asset lifespan.
Assist in leading a team of technicians in diagnosing mechanical issues using schematics, electrical diagrams, and diagnostic tools.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry regulations during all maintenance procedures.
Assist with inventory of parts, tools, and supplies necessary for repairs and routine servicing.
Oversee repairs involving welding, power tools, hand tools, and heavy lifting equipment to ensure quality workmanship.
Collaborate with operations teams to schedule maintenance without disrupting workflow or productivity.

Requirements

Proven experience with heavy equipment and highway maintenance with a strong background in diesel repair and industrial equipment.
Red Seal license required.
Mechanical knowledge complemented by electrical experience and familiarity with schematics for troubleshooting complex systems.
Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and performing heavy lifting safely.
Ability to read technical manuals and schematics to diagnose issues accurately.
Strong leadership skills with experience managing maintenance teams or technicians.
Excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with internal teams and external vendors.
Experience with Garage Management systems such as Truck Mate are strong asset
Bilingual considered strong asset
