Full job description

Support Companion / Mentor (Hands-On / Mechanical Focus) – 15 Hours/Week

We are seeking a reliable, practical, and highly adaptable Support Companion to work with a 19-year-old male navigating early adulthood. This is not a passive role; we are looking for a mentor who leads by example, takes initiative, and can connect through shared, hands-on interests.

Older, energetic, or retired individuals looking for a meaningful, part-time role are highly encouraged to apply. If you have a lifetime of practical skills to share and the energy to keep up, your experience is exactly what we are looking for.

Key Responsibilities

Mentorship & Shared Interests: Act as a positive, engaging companion. Connection is built through doing, so you should be ready to collaborate on working on motorbikes/4-wheelers, cooking meals from scratch, and engaging in outdoor or mechanical hobbies.
Adaptability & Initiative: Recognize and adapt to changing baseline presentations. When the individual is not up to direct engagement, you will be expected to take the initiative to complete household tasks (cleaning, organizing) or pivot to spend positive time with his teenage brothers.
Daily Living & Structured Habits: Provide hands-on assistance with household chores, meal preparation, and maintaining an organized home environment.
Community Integration: Support and model positive interactions during community outings, errands, and social engagements.

Schedule & Compensation

Hours: Up to 15 hours per week.
Flexibility: Candidates must have daytime availability, with the flexibility to shift to late afternoons/evenings depending on changing schedules.
Terms: Contract position; the successful candidate is responsible for their own taxes and deductions.

Ideal Candidate Profile & Requirements

The Right Fit: A practical, down-to-earth individual. Lived experience or a strong personal interest in mechanics, riding (motorcycles/ATVs), and practical life skills (like cooking) is highly preferred.
Dynamic Mindset: Must be highly flexible, perceptive, and able to read the room. You know when to push for engagement, when to back off and help around the house, and how to build a rapport based on mutual respect.
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain clear, open, and effective communication with the family.
Professionalism: Must maintain a clean criminal record. A background in human services is an asset, but genuine compatibility, life experience, and a strong work ethic are the priorities.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: $21.00-$25.00 per hour
