Venor is proud to partner with Brenton Kean in their search for an Associate Lawyer – Litigation (Insurance) to join their team in Saint John, New Brunswick.

Brenton Kean is a respected law firm providing legal services in litigation and corporate/commercial law to clients throughout New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada. The firm’s Partners, Associates, and staff are committed to providing high-quality legal services in a professional and efficient manner, while maintaining a professional yet relaxed working environment. With a strong insurance defence practice, this is an excellent opportunity for a litigator to join an established team and grow their legal practice.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced litigation partners, develop strong client relationships, and take on meaningful files while benefiting from a flexible hybrid work environment and a competitive compensation and benefits package.

What You’ll Be Doing

Manage a variety of litigation matters, with a primary focus on insurance defence.
Provide practical and strategic legal advice to clients throughout the litigation process.
Prepare pleadings, motions, applications, legal opinions, correspondence, and other legal documents.
Conduct legal research and develop effective litigation strategies.
Represent clients in procedural matters, motions, mediations, and settlement conferences.
Work toward effective and timely resolution of matters through negotiation, mediation, and settlement.
Prepare files for trial and participate in trial proceedings as required.
Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, insurers, and other stakeholders.
Work closely with the firm’s litigation partners, particularly Jeremy Doucet and Nadia MacPhee.
Manage files efficiently while maintaining a high standard of client service and professional work.
Contribute to the continued growth and development of the firm’s litigation practice.

What We’re Looking For

A law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) and membership in good standing with the Law Society of New Brunswick.
Approximately four years of experience practicing litigation; however, more junior and senior candidates will be considered.
Experience in insurance defence or a strong interest in developing expertise in this area is considered an asset.
Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple files and competing priorities.
A practical, solution-oriented approach to resolving client matters.
A strong work ethic and commitment to providing high-quality legal services.
The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
A motivated and qualified lawyer interested in building and growing their legal practice.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $80,000.00-$120,000.00 per year

Saint John, NB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
