This full-time position is based at Downey Home Hardware at 1106 Cleveland Avenue, Riverview, New Brunswick.
Job Description:
The Lumber Yard and Warehouse Associate is responsible for managing the lumberyard and warehouse areas, including unloading, verifying, and storing merchandise and materials This position ensures the smooth operation of the yard and warehouse by supporting high-level customer service, maintaining inventory, and promoting safety. The role requires using equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks, assisting customers, and collaborating with team members on various tasks.
Responsibilities:
o Unload incoming trucks, check merchandise against invoices/orders to detect shortages, damages, or backorders.
o Load/unload materials using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other tools.
o Assist with handling large or heavy items for both customers and staff.
o Help load trucks with material such as interior doors, trim, drywall, and exterior windows and doors.
o Keep the warehouse, lumberyard, dome, and storage areas clean and stocked.
o Restock lumber bins, sheds, and other inventory areas when necessary.
o Perform inventory counts, re-checks, and maintain up-to-date receiving files, price books and catalogs.
o Ensure orders for same-day deliveries and assist with special orders, including non-stock or out-of-stock items.
o Assist customers with advice, information, and help gathering and loading orders.
o Process and notify customers when special or out-of-stock items arrive.
o Help with customer pick-up orders and resolve customer complaints professionally.
o Advise supervisors of shortages, damaged goods, or backorders.
o Process documentation for returned or refused merchandise and prepare packages for mailing.
o Follow company procedures for signatures, receipts, and documentation.
o Follow safety protocols and ensure the yard and warehouse areas are secure.
o Operate forklifts safely and adhere to all provincial and federal safety regulations.
o Report any hazards or unsafe behavior to management.
o Work outside in varying weather conditions and dress accordingly based on the forecast.
o Work on special projects and additional duties assigned by supervisors.

o Load the box truck for next-day deliveries.
Skills and Qualifications:
- High School graduation or equivalent.
- Ability to work flexible schedules (weekends, evenings, holidays).
- Strong communication skills with customers, management, and delivery personnel.
- Ability to read invoices, picklists, and shipping documents, and perform basic arithmetic to verify orders.
- Familiarity with the safe operation of forklifts, pallet jacks, and other yard/warehouse equipment.
- Basic computer skills for maintaining inventory and receiving files.
- Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.
- Ability to lift materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to move merchandise weighing up to a hundred pounds from the receiving area to the warehouse and place it on shelves.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Working relationships
o Reports directly to Logistics Manager.
