Reporting to the CNE, the NP possesses and demonstrates the competencies to autonomously diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals, and perform specific procedures within their legislated scope of practice as delineated by the College of Nurses of Ontario. NP’s have an essential role in advancing Temiskaming Hospital’s (TH) ALC Strategy to provide high quality and timely care to patients and their families. The NP utilizes a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and an advanced level of clinical competence in caring for patients in an inpatient setting and in an Emergency Department (ED) in collaboration with Physicians and the interprofessional team. The NP will be expected to provide comprehensive health assessment and diagnosis, develop and implement a plan of care, provide health counseling and support in the areas of illness and injury prevention, complications, and health promotion.
The NP will promote excellence in patient-centered care through expert practice, education and consultation.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
Current registration and in good standing in the Extended Class (NP) with the College of Nurses of Ontario
BLS required; ACLS required, or willing to obtain.
Member of the NPAO preferred.
Minimum 10 years’ healthcare experience; at least seven years as an RN working in a hospital setting and three years as an NP, with a geriatric focus preferred.
Program planning, development and implementation experience as well as experience in change management will be considered an asset.
French language proficiency an asset

DUTIES:
The NP role is derived from blending clinical diagnostic and therapeutic knowledge, skills and abilities within a Nursing framework that emphasizes holism, health promotion and partnership with individuals and families, as well as community partners.
Direct Comprehensive Care:
Obtains and documents a comprehensive health history, performs a physical examination on patients requiring assessment, collaborates closely with Physicians and other members of the interprofessional team and coordinates care involving other healthcare providers such as Ontario Health atHome.
Uses advanced assessment and evaluation skills to develop/initiate/modify the health care plan, determine and implement required diagnostic testing and initiate/adjust/discontinue pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies in accordance with scope of practice as defined by the CNO for NP practice, legislation, and TH policies and procedures.
Initiates referrals for consultation (medical and non-medical) in collaboration with Physician(s), as required.
Provides consultation to nursing, medicine and other members of the patient care team.
Demonstrates sound clinical reasoning and current evidence in decision-making, planning and implementing care.
Participates and/or facilitates communication between patients and patient care team related to plan of care.
Develops and implements innovative approaches for complex practice issues and facilitates optimal outcome management of patient care.
Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of best practices.
Education:
Contributes to the development, implementation and evaluation of patient education/education programs.
Conducts educational teaching sessions with patients and/or families with a focus on health promotion, disease prevention, and impact of illness experience on the patient and family.
Advances the process of knowledge transfer for Nursing staff by being a role model in the integration of best practices.
Participates in regular evaluation of delivery and management of care.
Enhances personal and professional development
Collaborates with Nurses to provide innovative learning opportunities to integrate research findings, theory, and techniques that meet and respect needs and requests of patients/families.

Provides leadership in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of quality initiatives.

Act as a consultant and resource to nursing administration, members of the health care team and external groups in the process of decision-making, strategic planning and problem solving
Participates in the development/revision of practice guidelines, protocols, policies and procedures.
Advocate for and contributes to the development, integration and evaluation of policy that impacts quality of patient care.
Act as a change agent by advocating for and implementing new initiatives
