Registered Practical Nurse – Permanent Part Time

In our Med / Surg and LTC Departments

The Registered Practical Nurse is responsible in participating in the nursing process in maintaining quality of patient care as per the Standards of Nursing Practice while adhering to the hospital’s policies and procedures.

Affiliation: Union - CUPE 904

Rate of Pay: $37.482 - $38.161

Hours of Work:

Combination of shifts between 4 hours and 12 hours in duration. Applicant must have availability to work days, evenings, nights during weekdays and weekends.

Mandatory Requirements:

Graduate from an approved Registered Practical Nursing Program
Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Recent medical and surgical clinical experience in an acute care or long term care setting
Current certification in CPR-Basic Life Support
Excellent interpersonal as well as well as written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work as a collaborative member of the health team and with minimal supervision
Ability to meet the physical demands required to provide nursing care
Must have an excellent work record including attendance
Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers and visitors
Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization

Assets:

Oral proficiency in French at an advanced or superior level
Recently completed Physical Assessment Course
Hospital experience

Responsibilities:

Performs nursing assessment on all patients.
Attends to patient needs.
Takes vital signs, weights, ECG’s etc. as needed and follows up with Physician and Team Leader if necessary.
Performs IV Rounds.
Administers medication to assigned patients.
Prepares patients for surgery ensuring up-to-date documentation.
Point of care testing, process doctor’s orders, enters lab work and x-rays in Meditech Expanse.
