Music Teacher – Early Childhood Music & Private Lessons

Making Music Academy is growing, and we're looking for another wonderful music teacher to join our team!
This position is perfect for someone who genuinely loves music, loves working with children, and wants to grow as a music educator within a warm, welcoming and supportive music community.
Making Music Academy offers music programming from baby's very first music class through childhood, teen and adult private lessons. Classes are centred around joy, connection, community and fostering a lifelong love of music — and we're looking for teachers who share those values.
Two Areas of Teaching
Depending on your experience, strengths and interests, this position may include:
Early Childhood & Children's Group Music Classes
Lead engaging, playful music experiences for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and young children alongside their caregivers.
Private Music Lessons
Teach one or more instruments, including:
- Piano
- Voice
- Guitar
- Ukulele
- Drums
- Violin
- Cello
- Other instruments are welcome!
Candidates who are interested in both early childhood music and private teaching are especially encouraged to apply.
Who We're Looking For
You don't need to arrive knowing exactly how to teach Making Music Academy's programs — training will be provided.
The right person is someone who is excited to learn, develop new skills and grow into the position.
Ideally, you:
- Have a strong musical background and are currently working toward, or have completed, a university music degree, college music program or equivalent musical training
- Are confident singing and making music in front of others
- Have experience working with children
- Have an understanding of early childhood development, or an interest in learning more about it
- Are energetic, warm, positive and engaging
- Are patient, kind and empathetic
- Are reliable, punctual and organized
- Can think on your feet and adapt when working with young children
- Are comfortable communicating with parents and caregivers
- Can create a welcoming, inclusive space where children feel comfortable being themselves
- Are willing to learn Making Music Academy's curriculum and teaching approach
- Are interested in becoming part of the team long term
An Early Childhood Education background or experience working in childcare is an asset, but it is not required.
For Early Childhood Teachers
You should be excited about leading a room full of babies, toddlers, children AND their grown-ups!
You'll eventually become comfortable leading:
Singing Movement, Instruments Musical games Storytelling Creative play Parent-child musical interactions
You don't need previous experience leading this exact type of class as training will be provided.
You'll receive training, curriculum, resources and support to help you become a confident Making Music teacher.
New teachers may begin by observing and assisting classes before progressing into independently leading programs.
For Private Music Teachers
Private instructors should have strong proficiency in at least one instrument and be comfortable teaching children at beginner and/or intermediate levels.
More than anything, we're looking for teachers who understand that a great music lesson isn't just about playing the right notes.
It's about helping a student build confidence, new skills and a genuine love of making music.
Availability
This is a part-time position with opportunities to grow as enrolment and teaching experience increase.
Applicants must have some availability during our busiest teaching times, particularly:
Weekday evenings, mornings and/or weekends.
Weekend availability is especially important.
There may also be opportunities for daytime early childhood classes depending on availability.
We're looking for someone who wants to grow with Making Music Academy. For the right teacher, there is potential to expand teaching hours, take on additional classes and receive continued professional development and training.
Additional Requirements
Successful candidates will be required to:
- Obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check
- Hold or be willing to obtain First Aid & CPR certification
- Maintain a professional, reliable and welcoming presence with students and families

Pay: $20.00-$29.00 per hour
