After-School Teacher – Art & Music Program
Harmony Hills Early Learning Academy & Youth Centre is looking for a passionate, creative, and energetic After-School Teacher to join our team!
We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with school-age children and has a strong background, experience, or skill in Art and/or Music. The successful candidate will play an important role in developing and leading our Art & Music programming while providing a safe, positive, and engaging after-school environment.

Employment Type: Part-Time
Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
Schedule: After-school hours, Monday to Friday
Location: Newmarket, Ontario
Job Description
The After-School Teacher will supervise school-age children and provide engaging educational, recreational, and creative activities during our after-school program.
A key responsibility of this position is to plan and lead Art and/or Music activities that promote creativity, self-expression, confidence, and collaboration.
The ideal candidate is creative, enthusiastic, responsible, and comfortable leading a group of children. Candidates must have demonstrated experience, training, or strong practical skills in Art and/or Music.
Responsibilities
- Supervise children and ensure their safety and well-being throughout the program.
- Plan and lead engaging Art and/or Music lessons and activities for school-age children.
- Develop age-appropriate art projects using a variety of materials and creative techniques.
- Lead music activities such as singing, rhythm, movement, musical games, and/or instrument-based activities.
- Encourage children's creativity, self-expression, confidence, and active participation.
- Prepare and organize materials and learning environments for daily activities.
- Adapt activities based on children's ages, interests, abilities, and developmental needs.
- Maintain a positive, inclusive, respectful, and well-organized classroom environment.
- Support children's social and emotional development.
- Assist with daily routines, transitions, snack time, clean-up, and classroom organization.
- Communicate professionally and positively with children, parents, and team members.
- Follow all centre policies, health and safety procedures, and applicable childcare requirements.
Qualifications
- Experience working with school-age children in a childcare, education, camp, recreation, or similar setting.
- Strong experience, skills, training, or education in Art and/or Music is REQUIRED.
- Ability to independently plan and lead Art and/or Music activities for children is REQUIRED.
- Experience teaching or leading art or music classes for children is strongly preferred.
- Strong creativity and the ability to develop fun, engaging, and age-appropriate activities.
- Ability to confidently lead a group of children.
- Strong communication, organization, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, responsible, energetic, and enthusiastic when working with children.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative in planning and delivering activities.
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience working as an after-school teacher.
- Relevant Art and/or Music experience is required.
- Applicants with experience in visual arts, drawing, painting, crafts, singing, musical instruments, rhythm, movement, or other creative disciplines are encouraged to apply.
- Educational background in Fine Arts, Music, Education, Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care, or a related field is an asset.
- Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification is an asset.
- Vulnerable Sector Check required prior to employment.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and available during after-school hours.
