Position Title: Assistant to Senior Accountant

Position Overview:
The Assistant to the Senior Accountant provides comprehensive support in financial operations and administrative functions across multiple business units, including Safari Niagara, Stevensville Garden Gallery, and Stevensville Lawn Service (2676180 Ontario Ltd). This position is responsible for assisting with payroll processing (including hours and deductions verification), managing onboarding documentation and data entry, preparing employee-related forms, reconciling accounts, supporting budget preparation, and contributing to month-end close activities. Additional responsibilities include event payment management, grant and funding research, and assistance with internal and external audits. The role also provides administrative support to the Safari Niagara General Manager and the Tykolis executive team.
Key Responsibilities:
· Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, and supporting documentation.
· Oversee data entry for invoices, receipts, and other financial transactions.
· Reconcile bank accounts and company credit card transactions in a timely manner.
· Support payroll processing, including verification of employee hours and deductions.
· Manage onboarding documentation and enter employee information into HR and payroll systems.
· Assist with budget preparation, including data collection and analysis.
· Prepare and distribute recurring financial and operational reports for management.
· Research grants and funding opportunities; assist with application preparation and compliance tracking.
· Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions; monitor outstanding balances, proper collecting and paying HST.
· Maintain organized financial records for audits and internal reviews.
· Assist with internal and external audits by compiling documentation and responding to auditor requests.
· Manage payments and financial tracking for events (e.g., corporate picnics, school groups, adventure camps, cash counting activities).
· Support month-end closing activities, including reconciliations and journal entries.
· Manage Safari Niagara bank deposits, floats and cashflow.
· Provide administrative and operational assistance to the Safari Niagara General Manager, Stevensville Garden Gallery, Stevensville Lawn Service, and the Tykolis executive team.
· Additional related job duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Education: Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
· Experience: Minimum 1–2 years in accounting, bookkeeping, or payroll support roles.
· Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite). Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 applications.
· Core Competencies: Strong attention to detail and accuracy; excellent organizational and time-management skills; ability to handle confidential information with discretion; effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Pay: $23.00-$25.00 per hour
