About the position
Location: Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada
Work arrangement: On-campus, part-time student contract
Reports To: University Librarian
Reason for vacancy: Replacement
Expected hiring salary range: $17.60 per hour. *This part-time, term contract student position is open and reserved for current UNF students only.
Primary Purpose:
Under the direction of the Senior Library Assistant, the Student Library Associates work as official representatives of the library and play a pivotal role in supporting UNF students. Student Library Associates provide frontline student support, and work with a high level of responsibility.
Specific Responsibilities:
Library Services Desk

Assist students with basic research help questions, such as how to use the library website to search for resources, guides, and other information to support their library research

Provide immediate support on how to use library workstations, and how to use printer

Refer complex research questions to a librarian, via booking form

Provide directions to campus areas, such as classrooms, lounges, and student support areas

Collect and record data (door counts and reference questions) while maintaining confidentiality.

Maintain the cleanliness of library in general

Provide reference assistance via LibChat during scheduled shift
Library Tours

Conduct library tours to visiting students and community members upon request.
Event Support

Occasionally assist with on-campus library events upon request
Administration & Other
-
Collaborate closely with Library colleagues to provide excellent support to students

Be available for evening and weekend work.

Perform other tasks as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the Library and UNF.
Position Requirements:

Enrolled as a student within the University of Niagara Falls Canada during the entire duration of the contract.

Preferred that at start date, student has completed at least one school term with UNF.

Must be available for a minimum of 1 shift per week (minimum 3 hour shift), may consist of opening, mid-day, evening and/or weekend shift(s).

Students have not worked 2 consecutive student contracts with UNF .

Must have a cumulative average of 70% or greater.

Students who are actively participating in a capstone project or internship as part of their academic program are not eligible to work in a student staff role during these periods.

Experience in a customer service role is required.

Experience in academic library is considered an asset.
