Niagara Clifton Family Restaurant is seeking an experienced and professional Assistant Manager to support daily restaurant operations, lead front-of-house and back-of-house team members, and help deliver a welcoming, safe, and high-quality guest experience. The successful candidate will support the Restaurant General Manager with service standards, employee guidance, scheduling, training, operational follow-up, inventory awareness, health and safety, and day-to-day shift leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Restaurant General Manager with daily restaurant operations, service standards, team performance, and guest satisfaction.
- Lead by example by assisting front-of-house and back-of-house team members during service and helping maintain smooth shift flow.
- Coach, train, motivate, and support employees while promoting professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and respectful communication.
- Assist with scheduling, break planning, task delegation, call-ins, call-offs, and operational coverage based on business needs.
- Support recruiting, onboarding, orientation, training, and retention of team members in accordance with company policies and applicable legislation.
- Address guest concerns professionally through active listening, conflict resolution, and appropriate follow-up.
- Assist with inventory awareness, reporting, supplies, equipment, cash controls, keys, floats, and department property.
- Monitor cleanliness, food and beverage standards, safe work practices, and overall restaurant readiness.
- Respond to employee and guest incidents, emergencies, maintenance concerns, and operational issues in accordance with company procedures.
- Communicate operational updates, reservations, events, group bookings, and departmental changes to the team using approved communication channels.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Restaurant General Manager or Director of Operations.
Qualifications
- Three years previous restaurant, hospitality, food and beverage, or customer service experience required.
- Two to three years of supervisory, shift leadership, or restaurant management experience preferred.
- High school diploma required; post-secondary education in hospitality, business, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Valid Smart Serve certification required or must be obtained/maintained as required by the employer.
- Food Handler certification required or must be obtained/maintained as required by the employer.
- Strong leadership, coaching, communication, organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while remaining professional, calm, and guest-focused.
- Ability to work varied shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak business periods as required.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, twist, use hands and fingers, and lift/carry up to 60 lbs as required for the position, with accommodation where required by law.
