Bridge Working Foreperson
Job Summary: We are hiring a Bridge Working Foreperson for our client in the construction industry! Reporting to the General Superintendent, the Working Foreperson leads a bridge construction crew while remaining actively involved in field work. This role is responsible for coordinating daily activities, maintaining productivity, and ensuring high-quality, safe execution of work.
The position organizes labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractor activities within assigned areas, ensures work aligns with drawings and specifications, and supports short-term planning. It also maintains required site documentation and communication to keep operations running smoothly and efficiently.
Job Location: Woodstock, ON
Job Type: Full-time, permanent.
Shift Structure: Monday to Friday; 7am to 5pm (50 hours/week)
Compensation Structure: $45.50/hour to start + benefits + pension + company vehicle + more!
Travel Area Required: 100km radius of Woodstock
Responsibilities:
- Lead and work alongside the crew in the field to achieve daily production targets, assigning tasks, setting expectations, and ensuring clear understanding of plans, sequencing, and constraints
- Maintain active field supervision of workmanship, safety, and productivity while providing coaching, direction, and real-time support to crew members
- Enforce compliance with safety policies, project requirements, and legislation by identifying hazards, implementing controls, leading toolbox talks, and verifying PPE, safe work practices, and equipment checks
- Contribute to short- and medium-term planning by identifying upcoming needs for labour, materials, equipment, and site access; help maintain steady workflow and minimize delays
- Monitor labour and equipment use, report variances to the Superintendent, and identify ways to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and uphold safety and quality standards
- Keep accurate daily records, including crew and equipment hours, production quantities, site notes, photos, deliveries, and inspection documentation
- Ensure all work aligns with drawings, specifications, and quality expectations by verifying layout and tolerances, addressing issues, maintaining housekeeping, and protecting completed work
- Oversee and carry out bridge construction activities such as excavation, formwork, rebar, concrete, demolition, structural installation, bearings, joints, drainage, and restoration; provide daily reporting to the Superintendent and support overall site operations as required
Skills/Qualifications:
- 5+ years of bridge or heavy civil construction experience with field leadership responsibilities
- Proven ability to lead crews, coordinate daily work, and deliver safe, high-quality results under tight schedules
- Strong knowledge of bridge construction methods, including formwork, rebar, concrete placement, demolition, structural work, and rehabilitation
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and construction procedures
- Strong focus on safety, with experience managing high-risk activities such as lifting/rigging, working at heights, traffic exposure, and concrete operations
- Experience with field documentation, including daily reports, time tracking, production records, and photo documentation
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to operate small tools and job-related equipment
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel to project sites as required
- Gold Seal Foreperson certification or equivalent is considered an asset
