Advocate Printing & Publishing is currently looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, team player to join us as a Bindery Assistant at our Pictou plant located at 181 Brown’s Point Rd, Pictou, Nova Scotia. You will assist Bindery Operators, tend various machines and equipment, perform tasks involved in binding magazines, periodicals, and pamphlets, as well as assemble related printed materials in accordance with work order specifications. Reporting to the Bindery Supervisor and Manager of Production, this position communicates with operators, management, and co-workers.
Job Responsibilities

Drilling, punching, and fastening assorted printed materials, using hand or machine stapler.

Feed various printed materials into various machines for collating, stitching, trimming, folding, ruling, stapling, roughing, indexing, gluing and perforating operations.

Remove, stack, and pack printed material in various stages of completion on pallets.

Examine stitched, collated, bound, and unbound publications and ensure pages are in numerical or folio order according to sample copy.

Review and ensure imperfections are resolved, such as imperfect bindings, ink spots, torn, loose, uneven pages, loose and/or uncut threads.

Apply labels to envelopes or periodicals.

Record daily production as requested.

Maintain a clean the work area around machines.
Requirements
-
Grade 12 or equivalent working experience.

Mechanical aptitude or previous mechanical experience.

Excellent organizational skills with great attention to detail.

Comfortable with manual handling of printed material, including lifting, stacking, and strapping, while following safe work practices.

Able to work on your feet for extended periods, including standing, bending, and crouching, on a cement floor

Must wear CSA (steel toe) approved safety footwear and hearing protection.

Must learn and follow all company safety standards as trained.

May be required to operate manual and motorized pallet jacks.

Good interpersonal skills willing to work independently or as part of a team.
