About the Position
Divert NS is currently seeking an Environmental Programs Analyst to join their dynamic team in a one-year term position. Reporting to the Director of Programs & Development, the Environmental Programs Analyst is responsible for collecting and analysing data to identify waste diversion opportunities and researching new ways to advance waste reduction in Nova Scotia.
The Environmental Programs Analyst supports the implementation of green initiatives or policies across all Divert NS departments. Their role will include liaising with municipalities and private businesses that report into the system. The Analyst will also be responsible for compiling data and sharing reports from the system with key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with municipal and private sector stakeholders to administer the annual solid waste information survey and assist Divert NS’ Corporate Services Department with analysing the data.
- Conduct regular survey maintenance and respond to survey respondent inquiries.
- Perform data quality control for the waste information survey.
- Manage the solid waste database system. Prepare reports, technical analyses, and presentations for internal leadership, partners, and external stakeholders.
- Translate complex data into clear insights and recommendations for decision-making.
- Suggest ways to improve data collection and to automate processes.
- Research and identify new programs or initiatives to advance waste diversion or waste reduction in Nova Scotia.
- Undertake research to advance environmental initiatives or greening policies for implementation within Divert NS.
- Research and implement methodologies for measuring, tracking, and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with organizational operations and environmental programs.
- Lead the planning, implementation, and reporting of province-wide waste audits.
- Coordinate municipalities, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders to support waste characterization activities.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, deliverables, and data quality requirements.
- Oversee waste audit methodologies, data collection, and quality assurance processes.
- Analyse audit results to identify trends, diversion opportunities, and program improvement recommendations.
- Lead or assist with other initiatives as assigned by the Director of Programs and Development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Environmental Science/Studies or related discipline with a minimum of two years’ work experience in program development and data analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective research skills to carry out qualitative and quantitative research to support decision-making and program planning.
- Strong proficiency in Excel functionalities and data analysis.
- Proficiency in SQL for querying, validating, extracting, transforming, and analysing data from relational databases.
- Experience working with database design, management, and maintenance, including data structures, data integrity, quality assurance, and reporting systems.
- Experience using data visualization and reporting tools such as Metabase, Tableau, or similar platforms is an asset.
- Solid interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including government representatives, industry contacts, and the general public.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Self-starter able to work independently or in a team environment with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of waste diversion programs and related regulations in Nova Scotia.
- Must display initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Innovative and creative mindset.
