Program Overview:
The Newcomer Support Program Coordinator position works collaboratively with other Newcomer Program team members to ensure that the YWCA Halifax programs and supports are as successful as possible. This may involve workshops, developing resources, online or virtual communication, group and individual supports, and networking. It may also include helping with Free Tax Clinics.
The Newcomer Support Program Coordinator position is responsible for ensuring all YWCA procedures, policies, and budgets are followed and helps contribute to the advancement and achievement of the YWCA mission, vision, values, guiding principles, strategic plan, business plan, and departmental plan.
Essential Duties of Position:
- Advance the vision and mission of YWCA Halifax
- Support and build capacity for women, girls and gender diverse people
Program Coordination
- Work collaboratively with other newcomer and settlement team members to ensure program elements are delivered.
- Support delivery of workshops, trainings, and groups as needed. This may include conversation classes, Financial Literacy Workshops, community events and visits, etc.
- Follow policies and procedures
- Conduct evaluation and data collection as needed or required
- Ensure goals and objectives of the programs are met and on track
- Maintains appropriate program record-keeping
- Risk Assessment, planning and action as required
- Report writing (both internally and funder specific)
Financial Management
- Keep expenses in line with existing budget
- Follow policies and procedures for financial spending
- Keep clear financial records
Grant development
- Mobilizes community partners for prospective projects/programs
- Identifies prospective opportunities for grant applications or needs for the program
Other Duties
- Communicates with stakeholders as needed
- Participates in YWCA and community-based advocacy activities
- Supports partnerships, extension work, and other activities within the YWCA movement
- Ensures confidentiality and data collection
- Other duties as delegated by Manager, Director and/or Executive Director
Working Conditions
- Work takes place in an office environment, but programs and projects may take employees to non-standard workplaces (e.g. workshops in community locations)
- Standard work week with pre-set office hours but may be required to works some evening and weekends to meet project/program milestones, deadlines or deliver programs/services. Schedules and adjustments approved by Manager.
Special Conditions of Employment
Criminal Records Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check Asset to have First Aid, WHIMIS and Mental Health First Aid or Assist.
Qualifications and Experience:
Undergraduate degree in related field or equivalent experience, understanding of employer relations, HR practices, strong communication, program management and evaluation, administrative skills, financial management skills, organizational development and advocacy skills and an ability to work independently and in a team environment. In addition, effective interpersonal and organizational skills, high level of computer literacy, ability to maintain collaborative partnerships, internal and external to the organization, knowledge and interest in working with people to find employment and enter the workforce.
